Cervical cancer screening concerns women between the ages of 25 and 65. It consists of the collection of cervical cells with a spatula by rubbing the cervix. The material was initially spread out and fixed on a glass slide. It was subsequently fixed in a liquid preservative with an automated spread on a thin-layer slide after centrifugation or filtration, a process called liquid cytology. Microscopic reading was facilitated by field selection using an automated pre-reading system. In July 2019, the French High Authority for Health (HAS) recommended to position DNA research of high-risk human papillomavirus types by PCR (HPV HR test) in first position after the age of 30...

Ionizing radiation dosimetry with thermoluminescence (TL) materials based on silicon or glass can be interesting in its potential use in radiation monitoring as the solution to the constant looking of development of new radiation detectors. In this work, TL characteristics of sodium silicate exposed to beta radiation effects were studied. TL response beta irradiated exhibited a glow curve with two peaks centered at 398 K and 473 K. Samples showed linearity from 0.55 to 13.2 Gy. TL readings after 10 times showed a repeatability with an error of less than 1%...

These elements are innovative and of interest to many researchers for the reinforcement of wooden elements. For the reinforced beam elements, the effect of the reinforcement factor, FRP and steel elastic modulus or FRP and steel arrangement of the reinforcement on the performance of the flexural elements was determined, followed by reading the load-displacement diagram of the reinforced beam elements. The finite element model was then developed and verified with the experimental results, which was mainly related to the fact that the general theory took into account the typical tensile failure mode, which can be used to predict the flexural strength of reinforced timber beams...

Presbyopia is an age-related vision disorder that is a global public health problem. Up to 85% of people aged ≥40 years develop presbyopia. In 2015, 1.8 billion people globally had presbyopia. Of those with significant near vision disabilities due to uncorrected presbyopia, 94% live in developing countries. Presbyopia is undercorrected in many countries, with reading glasses available for only 6-45% of patients living in developing countries. The high prevalence of uncorrected presbyopia in these parts of the world is due to the lack of adequate diagnosis and affordable treatment...

CONTEXT.—: Salivary gland neoplasms are rare lesions in the head and neck (H&N) pathology realm. There are more than 20 malignant and 15 benign salivary gland neoplasms in the 5th edition of the World Health Organization classification of H&N tumors. These neoplasms consist of heterogeneous groups of uncommon diseases that make diagnosis and treatment challenging for the clinical team. Using an algorithmic immunohistochemical approach-defined tumor origin and type has proven to be effective and advantageous...

The production of thermoluminescence (TL) dosimeters fabricated from B2 O3 -CaF2 -Al2 O3 -SiO2 doped with Cu and Pr for use in diagnostic radiology is the main goal of this research. The TL samples were synthesized via the melt-quench technique processed by melting the mixture at 1200 °C for 1 h, and, after cooling, the sample thus created was divided into two samples and retreated by heating for 2 h (referred to as TLV30) and for 15 h (referred to as TLV17). SEM and EDS analyses were performed on the TL samples to confirm the preparation process and to investigate the effects of irradiation dosimetry on the TL samples...

Remote view eye-tracking systems are prone to errors when used on spectacle wearers due to reflections from the lenses and frame that result in inaccurate tracking. Traditionally, these trackers are situated below a computer monitor and the viewer's eye moments are recorded while they view the screen. Reflections may be influenced by the pantoscopic tilt of the spectacles, whereby the tilt angle causes incident light to be reflected to the camera. To overcome this problem, we propose mounting the tracker above the monitor to avoid these reflections and test the accuracy and precision of subjects with single vision spectacles, multifocals, and no correction, using both mounting positions...

Orbital implant materials have evolved greatly over the past century and include but are not limited to metal, ceramic, polymer, silicone, and glass. Knowledge of historically used materials is clinically relevant to patient care as certain materials carry a greater risk of migration, extrusion, infection, and limitations for imaging modalities utilized to visualize adjacent structures. We report an unusual case of an 80-year-old male who presented to our community hospital with seizure-like activity. CT imaging of the brain revealed several white matter and cortex lesions with the largest lesion measuring 2...

Many therapeutic drugs require monitoring of their concentration in blood followed by dose adjustments in order to ensure efficacy while minimizing adverse effects. It would be highly desirable to perform such measurements rapidly and with reduced sample volumes to support point-of-care testing. Here, we demonstrate that the concentration of small therapeutics can be determined in whole blood within paper-like membranes using Fluorescence Polarization Immunoassay (FPIA). Different types of paper-like materials such as glass microfibers, cellulose and filter paper were investigated for artefacts such as scattering or autofluorescence...

GJ turns negative realities of gender and sexuality nonconformity in the nineteenth century to productive, affirmative use through what we view as a highly effective strategy of visually engaging viewers as witnesses to and coconspirators in Lister's journey through Lister's fourth wall breaks and the camera's prioritization of her perspective. We analyze GJ 's various overlooked characters and reinscribed power hierarchies, which we argue results from both prioritizing Lister's perspective and fans' tendencies to view Lister through "pink-tinted glasses" as a result of cathexis with Lister...

Particle deposition on the surface of a drying chamber is the main drawback in the spray drying process, reducing product recovery and affecting the quality of the product. In view of this, the potential application of chemical surface modification to produce a hydrophobic surface that reduces the powder adhesion (biofouling) on the wall of the drying chamber is investigated in this study. A hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) solution was used in the vertical dipping method at room temperature to determine the optimum coating parameters on borosilicate glass and stainless steel substrates, which were used to mimic the wall surface of the drying chamber, to achieve highly hydrophobic surfaces...

The authors of "Impact of Electronic Health Records on Information Practices in Mental Health Contexts: Scoping Review" have effectively brought to our attention the failure of the electronic health record (EHR) to represent the human context. Because mental health or behavioral disorders (and functional status in general) emerge from an interaction between the individual's characteristics and the social context, it is essentially a failure to represent the human context. The assessment and treatment of these disorders must reflect how the person lives, their degree of social connectedness, their personal motivation, and their cultural background...

E-governance is a process that aims to enhance a government's ability to simplify all the processes that may involve government, citizens, businesses, and so on. The rapid evolution of digital technologies has often created the necessity for the establishment of an e-Governance model. There is often a need for an inclusive e-governance model with integrated multiactor governance services and where a single market approach can be adopted. e-Governance often aims to minimise bureaucratic processes, while at the same time including a digital-by-default approach to public services...

The use of bioactive materials is a recent proposal in the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity (DH) due to the ability to stimulate the neoformation of a barrier on dentin surface. Questions have arisen about the effectiveness of the materials to reduce DH when compared to the control groups (placebo or non-bioactive substance). Thus, the aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the randomized controlled trials in adult patients for DH treatment with a dentifrice containing bioactive glass, applied either at-home or in-office...
