Introduction: Simulation-based training in transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) seems promising. However, data are limited to non-randomized or single-center studies. To assess the impact of simulation-based vs. traditional teaching on TEE knowledge and performance for medical residents in cardiology. Materials and Methods: Nationwide prospective randomized multicenter study involving 43 centers throughout France allowing for the inclusion of >70% of all French cardiology residents. All cardiology residents naive from TEE will be included...

The concept of ''diastolic'' heart failure grew out of the observation that many patients who have the symptoms and signs of heart failure had an apparently normal left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction. Thus it was assumed that since systolic function was ''pre- served'' the problem must lie in diastole, although it is not clear by whom or when this assumption was made. Nevertheless, many guidelines followed on how to diagnose ''diastolic'' heart failure backed up by indicators of diastolic dysfunction derived from Doppler echoardiography...

AIM: To assess the value of aortic flow propagation velocity (Vp) in detecting hypertensive patients with coronary risk. METHODS: The study included 120 patients with hypertension. According to the 10-year risk of coronary heart disease the patients were categorized in the three groups: 10-year risk < 10% (I),10 - year risk=%10 - 20 (II), and 10-year risk > 20% (III). The aortic flow propagation velocity (Vp) was measured from descending aorta with color M-mode echoardiography...

The aim of this study was to assess the role of intravenous myocardial contrast echocardiography (IMCE) in the prediction of left ventricular (LV) remodeling in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Sixty-three patients with AMI, who were successfully treated with acute coronary angioplasty, underwent IMCE and low-dose dobutamine echocardiography during hospital admission. IMCE was graded semiquantitatively on a score of 0 (no visible contrast effect), 0.5 (patchy myocardial contrast enhancement), and 1 (homogenous contrast effect)...
