Silybin (Si) is the main element of silymarin isolated from the seeds of Silybum marianum L. Gaernt., which has superior antioxidant properties. However, the protective role of Si in maintaining liver health under oxidative stress remains ambiguous. This study aimed to investigate the underlying mechanism of the beneficial effect of dietary Si against hepatic oxidative injury induced by paraquat (PQ) in weaned piglets. A total of 24 piglets were randomly allocated to four treatments with six replicates per treatment and 1 piglet per replicate: the control group; Si group; PQ group; and Si + PQ group...

A 10-year-old American Shorthair cat presented with anorexia and jaundice, and echogenic evaluation revealed diffuse thickening of the common bile duct (CBD) wall. An exploratory laparotomy was conducted, the lesion was evaluated as difficult to remove, and the cat was euthanized and autopsied. Histologically, round neoplastic cells proliferated in the mucosa of the CBD and infiltrated the hepatic lobe, pancreas, and duodenum. Immunohistochemistry revealed that the neoplastic cells were positive for cytoplasmic-CD3 and granzyme B, and TCR-gamma clonal rearrangement was detected...

A 79-year-old man presented with a history of solitary plasmacytoma in the bone 10 years ago. Chemoradiotherapy was effective, and remission was maintained with intermittent treatment at relapse of the bone lesions. One year after the last treatment, a follow-up computed tomography (CT) scan revealed multiple liver masses, and a liver biopsy revealed plasmacytoma. There was no clonal plasma cell infiltration in the bone marrow, and the final diagnosis was solitary plasmacytomas of the liver. Although liver involvement is known in relapsed refractory multiple myeloma, solitary plasmacytoma in the relapsed stage confined to the liver is rare, and all previous reports have been from the initial presentation...

Primary bone lymphoma of the scapula is a rare tumor that usually causes local pain. The presented patient suffered for two years from paresthesia, tingling, numbness, and edema of the little and ring fingers. The 45-year-old man underwent several radiological and neurological assessments of the palm, elbow, and neck before radiographs revealed a tumor of the left shoulder. Once diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was confirmed, immunochemotherapy with rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and methylprednisolone (R-CHOP) started...

The patient was an 81-year-old man. In his 20s, he had been treated with pharmacotherapy for pulmonary tuberculosis for 1 year. He presented to the Department of Respiratory Medicine with a chief complaint of dyspnea. The possibility of respiratory disease appeared to be low, but hepatic impairment was detected. The patient was thus referred to our department. Though the cause of hepatic impairment was unknown, the soluble interleukin-2 receptor level was elevated, suggesting malignant lymphoma. 18 F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)-computed tomography (CT) revealed diffuse, homogenous, intense FDG uptake in the entire liver, and transjugular liver biopsy confirmed the diagnosis...

BACKGROUND: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) poses a significant threat to the quality of life for people worldwide. Regrettably, effective treatment strategies for this disease remain elusive in clinical practice due to the unclear understanding of its molecular mechanisms. Therefore, this study was devised to address these issues and identify novel diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic biomarkers for DLBCL. METHODS: Gene expression and clinical data for DLBCL patients were retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, and relevant clinical data, tumor mutational burden (TMB), and gene expression levels were extracted...

Nivolumab was approved for relapsed/refractory classic Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) in Japan in 2016. After its approval, a prospective, non-interventional, observational post-marketing surveillance was initiated to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of nivolumab treatment for up to 12 months in patients with relapsed/refractory cHL. Of 304 registered patients, 288 were included in safety analyses and 282 in effectiveness analyses. There were 191 (66.3%) male patients, median age was 64.0 years, and 54 patients (18...

Tazemetostat, a novel oral selective inhibitor of enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2), was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2020 for use in patients with advanced epithelioid sarcoma or relapsed/refractory (R/R) EZH2-mutated follicular lymphoma. These indications were approved by the FDA trough accelerated approval based on objective response rate and duration of response that resulted from phase 2 clinical trials. Tazemetostat competes with S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) cofactor to inhibit EZH2, reducing the levels of trimethylated lysine 27 of histone 3 (H3K27me3), considered as pharmacodynamic marker...

INTRODUCTION: Helicobacter pylori is a significant contributor to conditions such as peptic ulcer disease, gastric cancer, gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma, and colorectal cancer. Recent studies have suggested a potential link between H. pylori and cirrhosis. However, the impact of H. pylori on cirrhosis-related mortality, inpatient outcomes, and decompensating events remains unclear. Considering the widespread availability of H. pylori testing and effective treatment options, there is a potential rationale for eradicating H...

The first-line treatment for autoimmune hepatitis involves the use of prednisone or prednisolone either as monotherapy or in combination with azathioprine (AZA). Budesonide has shown promise in inducing a complete biochemical response (CBR) with fewer adverse effects and is considered an optional first-line treatment, particularly for patients without cirrhosis; however, it is worth noting that the design of that study favored budesonide. A recent real-life study revealed higher CBR rates with prednisone when equivalent initial doses were administered...

Belinostat was approved in 2014 for the treatment of relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma, however, there was insufficient data to recommend a dose in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment. The purpose of this analysis was to characterize the pharmacokinetic disposition of belinostat and its five metabolites in patients with advanced cancers and varying degrees of liver dysfunction. A population pharmacokinetic model was therefore developed to describe the parent-metabolite system...

The development of lymphoma is a complex multistep process that integrates numerous experimental findings and clinical data that have not yet yielded a definitive explanation. Studies of oncogenic viruses can help to deepen insight into the pathogenesis of lymphoma, and identifying associations between lymphoma and viruses that are established and unidentified should lead to cellular and pharmacologically targeted antiviral strategies for treating malignant lymphoma. This review focuses on the pathogenesis of lymphomas associated with hepatitis B and C, Epstein-Barr, and human immunodeficiency viruses as well as Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus to clarify the current status of basic information and recent advances in the development of virus-associated lymphomas...

When the expression levels of metastasis suppressor-1 (MTSS1) were discovered to be downregulated in a metastatic cancer cell line in 2002, it was proposed that MTSS1 functioned as a suppressor of metastasis. The 755 amino acid long protein MTSS1 connects to actin and organizes the cytoskeleton. Its gene is located on human chromosome 8q24. The suppressor of metastasis in metastatic cancer was first found to be MTSS1. Subsequent reports revealed that MTSS1 is linked to the prevention of metastasis in a variety of cancer types, including hematopoietic cancers like diffuse large B cell lymphoma and esophageal, pancreatic, and stomach cancers...

Hepatitis C virus (HCV)-associated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) displays peculiar clinicopathological characteristics, but its molecular landscape is not fully elucidated.
