Hydronephrosis associated with kidney malrotation can be a surgical challenge. We present the case of a 3.5 y.o.-boy presenting with left pyelo-ureteric obstruction caused by kidney hyperrotation (270°) resulting in recurring urinary tract infection. After complete radiological work-up, we opted for a primary laparoscopic ureterocalicostomy, which allowed for complete resolution of the pelvic dilatation. Kidney malrotation can present with a wide variation in anatomic features. Radiological work-up is the cornerstone of surgical strategy planning...

BACKGROUND: We present the long-term results and complications of the DETOUR® prosthesis, a permanent subcutaneous pyelovesical bypass for the treatment of ureteral obstruction. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 2006 et 2018, 34 prosthesis were implanted in 28 patients (mean age 65,8 years) with ureteral obstruction of malignant or benign etiologies. The prosthesis, composed to an inner tube of silicone and an outer tube of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, is placed subcutaneously between the kidney and the bladder...

Renal ectopia is a rare congenital anomaly that mostly occurs in the pelvic area. An ectopic kidney is usually associated with other anomalies such as a malrotation. We report the case of a 15-year-old male who consulted after a blunt abdominal trauma. A left iliac renal ectopia was incidentally discovered. This ectopic kidney was associated with a malrotation, and a pyelo-ureteral duplication. Iliac renal ectopia should be dissociated from other abdominal renal ectopias, and its association with other renal malformations should be further investigated...

OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate the feasibility and success of a robotic approach to reconstruction of ureterovesical anastomotic strictures in kidney transplants. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between November 2017 and December 2019, a total of 5 patients with transplant ureteral stricture were identified and treated with robot assisted laparoscopic repair. All patients were confirmed to have ureteral stricture with a preoperative antegrade nephrostogram through their nephrostomy tube and cystogram...

OBJECTIVE: Polar vessels are related with pyelo-ureteral stenosis (PUE) in 5-10% of the patients. In the 24% of these cases an intrinsic cause of stenosis can also be found. An increased incidence of polar vessels is found in laparoscopic surgery, compare to open procedures. Our study analyses this difference in our hospital, studying its influence in the aetiology of the disease.MATERIAL AND METHODS: Descriptive and retrospective study of patients operated in our hospital of pyeloplasty, because of PUE between 2009 and 2017...

Material and method: We retrospectively evaluated 4500 procedures of flexible retrograde ureteroscopic approach for pyelocaliceal lithiasis, operated in two centers. The complications associated with this approach were retrospectively evaluated and data was stratified according to Clavien- Dindo classification...

Dandy-Walker malformation (DWM) may occur as part of Mendelian disorders such as Walker-Warburg and Meckel-Gruber syndromes. We report a novel association with type III lissencephaly in a 22-week male fetus. Ultrasound showed fetal akinesia deformation sequence, single umbilical artery, microlissencephaly, hydranencephaly with cerebral lamination, DWM, and pontocerebellar hypoplasia. These abnormalities were confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging and autopsy, which also revealed pulmonary and adrenal hypoplasia, common mesentery and bilateral uretero-pyelo-calyceal dilatation...

Introduction: Ureterocelemay cause severe pyelo-ureteral obstruction with afebrile urinary tract infections in infants and children. Early decompressive treatment is advocated to reduce the risk of related renal and urinary tract damage. Endoscopic techniques of incision have been offered utilizing diathermic electrode. We adopted laser energy to release the obstruction of the ureterocele and reduce the need of further surgery. Our technique is described and results are presented, compared with a group of matched patients treated by diathermic energy...

The article presents the experience of successful surgical treatment of a patient with complete ureteral obliteration after transurethral endoscopic pyelolithotripsy in the left renal pelvis with lithoextraction and stenting. Two months later the patient developed stent obstruction and underwent repeat stenting and insertion of a left nephrostomy tube. After another 1.5 months, he was found to have complete obliteration of the left ureter. Ileal substitution of the left ureter was performed with the formation of a pyelo-ileal anastomosis and antireflux ileo-cysto-anastomosis...

Diagnostic performance of MR imaging for the diagnosis of pelvic endometriosis are good. Even if some differences of performances exists according the location considered, the risk of misdiagnosis is lower than 10% for trained teams (NP2). The performance of pelvic MR imaging and surgery are quite similar to diagnose endometrioma (sensitivity and specificity>90%). A negative pelvic MR imaging allows to exclude deep pelvic endometriosis with a performance similar to surgery but a positive MR imaging is less accurate than surgery because of a high number of false positives (23%)...

Currently, indications for flexible ureterorenoscopy (fURS) are expanding, mainly due to technological advancements. Although data from clinical series definitely presents fURS as a safe procedure, serious complications including sepsis and ureteral lesions do occur. These complications seem to be a result of the unique elements of fURS, ureteral access and irrigation, pushing normal upper urinary tract physiology into pathophysiological processes, including intrarenal/pyelo-veneous backflow and ureteral contractions, potentially resulting in septic, haemorrhagic and ureteral lesional complications...

The problem of the etiology and pathogenesis of acute obstructive pyelonephritis (OOP) remains one of the challenging issues of modern urology. Etiological agents of pyelonephritis can be both gram-negative and gram-positive opportunistic bacteria mostly belonging to the normal flora in humans. The generally accepted diagnostic work-up involves a bacteriological testing of not pelvic urine, but of bladder urine collected by a transurethral catheter or midstream specimens of urine collected from the patients...
