We assessed the association between serum gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) activity with postprimary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) coronary flow and in-hospital major advanced cardiac events (MACEs) in patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Patients with STEMI (n = 425; males 78%; mean age 60 ± 13 years) were enrolled. Patients were divided into 3 GGT tertiles and 2 groups according to thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow grade. The TIMI flow percentages were similar in the 3 GGT tertiles (32%, 45%, and 42%, respectively, P = ...

BACKGROUND: There are limited data on prognostic value of gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) in acute coronary syndromes (ACS) with non-ST-segment elevation (NSTE-ACS). We investigated GGT levels and their association with significant stenosis and major cardiac events (MACE) in NSTE-ACS patients. METHODS AND RESULTS: This study included 237 patients with NSTE-ACS (ACS group), and age-matched and sex-matched controls with normal coronary arteries (control group). ACS group was divided into subgroups with and without significant stenosis...

In acute coronary syndromes (ACS), oxidation and inflammation have very important roles and in-vitro studies have demonstrated that gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) participates in such oxidative and inflammatory reactions. We aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of baseline serum GGT activity on the development of major adverse cardiac event (MACE) in the follow-up of the patients with ACS in coronary care unit (CCU), after 1 and 6 month periods. We included 117 patients (mean age: 61.2+/-11.3 years, 93 males) hospitalized in CCU with the diagnosis of ACS...
