Scabies is an ectoparasitic dermatosis caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis mite, which lives and reproduces in humans. Its incidence in Spain has increased in recent years. The aim of this study was to complement existing evidence on the increasing number of scabies cases in our country by analyzing changes in ectoparasiticide prescriptions and Internet searches for scabies infestations measured by Google Trends. We also examined correlations between these 2 variables. Scabies affects more than 200 million people around the world, and causes a significant socioeconomic impact. Prolonged skin-to-skin contact is the primary mode of transmission. Fomite-mediated transmission is uncommon, although it can be significant in crusted scabies. Topical therapy with permethrin 5% is recommended as first-line treatment. Crusted scabies is a clinical variant of classical scabies, which is an infestation of the skin by the mite Sarcoptes scabie, Infrequent with high mite burden, usually in people with reduced cellular immunity or elderly long-term care residents. Cutaneous findings are erythematous patches, with prominent scales, usually located in hands, feet, scalp, face and trunk. The aim of this report is to describe dermatological findings of this clinical variant, the diagnosis and treatment.
