Graves ophthalmopathy (GO) occurs in 25-50% cases of Graves disease. Most cases are just mild, only 5% represents eye threatening diseases. About 5-10% of cases could be euthyroid and 10% hypothyroid, respectively. All patients with GO should be assessed for activity (clinical activity score - CAS) and severity of the disease. Essential conditions of the successful treatment are well controlled thyroid dysfunction, smoking cessation and to refer patients with moderate to severe and sight threatening GO to specialized thyroid eye centers as soon as possible...

One of the common causes of acute kidney injury (AKI) is drug nephrotoxicity. A large group of drugs associated with AKI includes a considerable number of antimicrobials. Clinical manifestations range from mild forms of tubular damage to significant deterioration of renal function requiring renal replacement therapy. Several mechanisms have been described, although the most common are acute interstitial nephritis, acute tubular necrosis, crystalic nephropathy or proximal/distal tubulopathy with electrolyte abnormalities...

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and chronic fibrotic interstitial lung disease with progressive phenotype are characterized by fibrotic lung parenchyma. Current antifibrotic treatment does not affect pre-existing lung parenchyma fibrosis, but prevents fibrosis progression and reduces mortality by reducing fibrotization. This work summarizes fibrotic lung processes and their treatment options.

Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed mainly in people of economically developed parts of the world and it affects 20-25% of the adult population worldwide. Nowadays, it is also more frequently diagnosed in children and adolescents. In addition to standard treatment that often involves polypharmacotherapy, and thus increases risk of side effects caused by drugdrug interactions, it is appropriate to look for alternative tools to support the treatment of metabolic syndrome components. Natural polyphenolic compounds, usually present in the so-called functional foods, are suitable candidates for that matter, due to the bioactivity and beneficial effects on the human body...

Diabetes mellitus is a disease associated with multiple complications due to ineffective diabetes management in the early period after diagnosis and especially in the long term. However, the risk of developing sexual dysfunctions, which affect both men and women, is rarely mentioned in association with diabetes (1). Sexual complications not only disrupt with the social and sexual life of patients, but are often the first symptom of other health problems. For these reasons, in people with diabetes, early detection and proper treatment of sexual dysfunctions should be of concern physicians caring for diabetic patients...

Metronomic therapy is a therapeutic method in selected oncological diseases, using long-term administration of low doses of drugs with direct or indirect antitumor effect. In addition, to direct cytotoxic eradication of tumor cells, metronomic therapy can very strongly affect the tumor microenvironment; it also has an immunomodulatory and antiangiogenic effect. Its minimal toxic profile allows for use in patients with severe organ dysfunctions and directly impacts the quality of life and social inclusion of oncological patients...

During a CT examination in the district hospital he suddenly showed a deterioration in the level of consciousness. Subsequent treatment along with transport to a specialized department were aimed at preventing secondary pathological changes and maintaining pressure-volume homeostasis of the brain. High-quality controlled ventilation with effective pharmacotherapy and gentle transport were essential...

A common related problem is chronic skin ulcers, which, while not life-threatening, can significantly decrease the quality of the patient's life. The present study aims to evaluate new materials and methods to improve and accelerate the treatment of leg ulcers. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty-five patients with chronic ulcers treated using autologous growth factors applied on a nanofiber carrier were included in the cohort...

Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is a form of acute ischemic stroke. It is a critical condition that often leads to severe visual loss or blindness and can be a harbinger of further cerebrovascular events. Due to the lack of scientific data, there are no effective evidence-based forms of therapy for this condition. None of the conservative therapies have proven effective. The results of some previously published studies suggest a benefit of intravenous thrombolytic therapy in the same regimen as in the treatment of ischemic stroke...

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare but life-threatening condition caused by dopamine modulating medications, particularly antipsychotics. First-line treatments of neuroleptic malignant syndrome are supportive care, discontinuation of the offending agent and pharmacotherapy. In drug-resistant and severe situations, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is recommended as well. In this paper we present a 23-year old male with bipolar disorder who was treated with multiple injections of zuclopenthixol long acting and depot forms for a recent manic episode and developed NMS...

Cross-border reproductive care is undoubtedly a current phenomenon. The number of people interested in receiving reproductive care abroad is increasing every year. This new context needs a political solution that would respond to the definition of standard care within the circumstances of providing healthcare to the citizens of another country. Patients that undergo reproductive treatment abroad very often face complications such as language problems, insufficient information, separation from family members, cultural differences and customs, potential unrealistic expectations, and also restrictions by law...

INTRODUCTION: Infectious complications after lung surgery are the most important factor that affects mortality and morbidity, prolongs hospital stays and increases financial costs. According to various sources, 30-day mortality after lung resections reaches 123%. Infectious complications account for 2075% of overall mortality. The infections most often present as postoperative pneumonia (POP), and their treatment is based on empirical and targeted antibiotic therapy. Any time lag in initiating effective antibiotic therapy significantly increases morbidity and mortality...

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, inflammatory disease characterized by eczematous lesions in typical locations. It is caused by the complex interplay between genetic predisposition, environmental factors and altered skin barrier. A more precise understanding of the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis revealed novel therapeutic options. Dupilumab, which long-term effectiveness and safety have been proven, is the first biologic available for atopic dermatitis. Other monoclonal antibodies such as nemolizumab, tralokinumab, lebrikizumab and fezakinumab demonstrated statistically significant clinical improvements in phase 2 and 3 trials...

Cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) are natural polymers with physical-chemical properties that make them very attractive for modulating stem cell differentiation, a crucial step in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Although cellulose is cytocompatible, when materials are in nanoscale, they become more reactive, needing to evaluate its potential toxic effect to ensure safe application. This study aimed to investigate the cytocompatibility of cotton CNF and its differentiation capacity induction on stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth...
