BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies are the most common cancers and account for nearly half of all cancer-related deaths in Iran. There was a strong association between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and urogenital cancers, in particular the cervix. However, there is no clear causal relationship in all types of cancers, including gastrointestinal cancers. Therefore, the present study as a systematic review and meta-analysis was designed to evaluate the prevalence and relation of HPV in GI cancers...

The objectives of this study were to determine the chemical composition, ileal amino acid (AA) digestibility of barley varieties and to develop equations to predict the AA digestibility based on the chemical characteristics of individual barley. A wide selection of nine barley varieties in the main growing regions of China was used in the experiment. Ten crossbred pigs (30.9 ± 1.8 kg) were allotted to a 6 × 10 Youden Square. The treatments included a nitrogen-free diet and nine barley test diets. Considerable variation was observed in the content of neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, crude protein (CP) and all AAs among the barley samples...

Studies have shown that there are variations in the chemical and nutritive composition of canola meal (CM) produced in Canada, some of which may result from differences among the canola seed crushing plants. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the variability in the nutritive value of CM as its end users desire increased meal consistency and more information on any potential variability in AA digestibility. Thus, 18 ileal cannulated barrows (average initial BW = 23.3 kg) were used to determine the apparent (AID) and standardized (SID) ileal digestibility of N and AA and standardized ileal digestible N and AA contents in CM from 6 processing plants in Canada...

Digestibility of remaining oil in canola press-cake (CPC) may be lower than that of extracted, liquid canola oil (CO) because oil may be partly entrapped in the CPC matrix. To determine true digestibility of fat in ingredients, endogenous fat losses should be estimated. Dietary fat may interact with digestion of other dietary components. To test these hypotheses, 10 ileal-cannulated pigs (initial BW, 25.4 kg) were fed 10 diets for 8 periods in a 10 × 8 Youden square. A basal diet was formulated based on wheat, barley, and canola meal...

The shortage of deceased-donor organs is compounded by donation metrics that fail to account for the total pool of possible donors, leading to ambiguous donor statistics. We sought to assess potential metrics of organ procurement organizations (OPOs) utilizing data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) from 2009-2012 and State Inpatient Databases (SIDs) from 2008-2014. A possible donor was defined as a ventilated inpatient death ≤75 years of age, without multi-organ system failure, sepsis, or cancer, whose cause of death was consistent with organ donation...

RNA degradation is an essential process for maintaining cellular homeostasis. Previously, we have discovered a novel RNA degradation system, RNautophagy, during which direct import of RNA into lysosomes in an ATP-dependent manner followed by degradation takes place. The putative nucleic acids transporter, SID-1 transmembrane family member 2 (SIDT2), predominantly localizes to lysosomes and mediates the translocation of RNA into lysosomes during RNautophagy. However, little is known about the mechanisms of sorting SIDT2 to lysosomes...

Little is known about the molecular mechanism of the R2R3-MYB transcriptional repressors involved in plant phenylpropanoid metabolism. Here, we describe one R2R3-type MYB repressor, FtMYB11 from Fagopyrum tataricum. It contains the SID-like motif GGDFNFDL and it is regulated by both the importin protein 'Sensitive to ABA and Drought 2' (SAD2) and the jasmonates signalling cascade repressor JAZ protein. Yeast two hybrid and bimolecular fluorescence complementation assays demonstrated that FtMYB11 interacts with SAD2 and FtJAZ1...

BACKGROUND: The small developing countries in the Pacific are grouped together as Small Island Development States (SIDS) because they face similar problems which they cannot cope with nationally. They are developing countries, so-called low and lower middle income countries (LMIC), are economically weak and the islands of the different nations are widely scattered. Approximately 80% of the 10 million inhabitants live in rural regions. Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) remains one of the most common causes of post-neonatal infant mortality in developed countries. Its pathogenesis is still poorly understood. The goal of the present study was to characterize changes in the proteome of SIDS compared to age-matched controls in heart and medulla tissues as well as in blood samples using two complementary quantitative proteomic techniques: 2D-DIGE and iTRAQ aiming to provide new insights into the mechanism of SIDS and to find diagnostic protein patterns...

The yellow stem borer (YSB), Scirpophaga incertulas is a prominent pest in the rice cultivation causing serious yield losses. The larval stage is an important stage in YSB, responsible for maximum infestation. However, limited knowledge exists on biology and mechanisms underlying growth and differentiation of YSB. To understand and identify the genes involved in YSB development and infestation, so as to design pest control strategies, we performed de novo transcriptome at 1(st), 3(rd), 5(th) and 7(th) larval developmental stages employing Illumina Hi-seq...
