The fluorescence lifetime of a porphyrinic photosensitizer (PS) is an important parameter to assess the aggregation state of the PS even in complex biological environments. Aggregation-induced quenching of the PS can significantly reduce the yield of singlet oxygen generation and thus its efficiency as a medical drug in photodynamic therapy (PDT) of diseased tissues. Hydrophobicity and the tendency to form aggregates pose challenges on the development of efficient PSs and often require carrier systems. A systematic study was performed to probe the impact of PS structure and encapsulation into polymeric carriers on the fluorescence lifetime in solution and in the intracellular environment...

The morphology and size control of anisotropic nanocrystals are critical for tuning shape-dependent physicochemical properties. Although the anisotropic dissolution process is considered to be an effective means to precisely control the size and morphology of nanocrystals, the anisotropic dissolution mechanism remains poorly understood. Here, using in-situ liquid cell transmission electron microscopy (TEM), we investigate the anisotropic etching dissolution behaviors of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-stabilized Ag nanorods in NaCl solution...

The study of photoactive materials often unveils intriguing findings, showcasing the value of an interdisciplinary approach. We examined the purported metal-enhanced luminescence thought to result from the chemisorption of aryl iodides on poly( N -vinylpyrrolidone)-stabilized gold nanoparticles. Our discovery deviates from previous assumptions: the fluorescence observed does not originate from excimers of iodophenols chemisorbed on Au:PVP. Instead, it arises from biphenol products, resulting from a gold-mediated Ullmann homocoupling reaction that occurs within the system...

The transformation of photogenerated charge carriers (PC) in variable dimensional photocatalyst plays a pivotal role in unraveling the generation of reactive species (RS). However, the dimensional structure-activity relationship in photocatalysis remains elusive, with limited insights into its intricacies. Herein, we report a controlled synthesis strategy by using polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP)-assisted precipitation method for BiOI photocatalyst. Due to the steric hindrance of PVP, the 3D microsphere (3D-PVP0...

Plant-mediated solution casting is used to develop eco-friendly polymer blend nanocomposites from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) doped with Silver (Ag), Ferrous (Fe) monometallic and Silver-Ferrous (Ag-Fe) bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs). These nanocomposites were studied to understand their electromagnetic interface (EMI) shielding efficiency and antimicrobial activities, besides evaluating their physical and chemical properties. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) characterization techniques were used to examine the interactions between the polymers, the presence of silver and ferrous particles in the composites, the crystallinity shift, the surface morphology, the shape and size of the nanoparticles and the distribution of the nanoparticles in the composites...

Telmisartan (TMN), an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) drug, is being considered as an alternative therapy for Alzheimer's disease (ALZ). However, when taken orally, its low water solubility leads to a low bioavailability and brain concentration. To overcome this problem, TMN was formulated as nanocrystals (NC), then incorporated into dissolving microneedles (DMN) to enhance drug delivery to the brain via the trigeminal route on the face. TMN-NC was formulated with 1% PVA using the top-down method and stirred for 12 h, producing the smallest particle size of 132 ± 11 nm and showing a better release profile, reaching 89...

Enhanced kinetic stability of Fe-NPs in groundwater is a focus in application of Fe-NPs for groundwater remediation. The effect of surfactants (Triton X-100 and SDBS) and polymers (XG, SA, CCS, PSS and PVP) on the kinetic stability of Fe-NPs were studied with sedimentation experiments. Polymers improved stability of nFe3 O4 and XG had the best effect, while surfactants had minimal effect. There was a critical concentration (CSC) for XG to stabilize nFe3 O4 , which was 2.0 g/L. At such a concentration nFe3 O4 , nFe2 O3 , and nCuO did not settled in 10 h, while the settlement occurred below the concentration and increased with decreasing XG concentration...

First-generation solid dispersions (SDs) were attempted with a different ratio of PVP K:30:ACM. SDs prepared were transparent, suggesting a solid solution (SS) formation, which was a serendipitous discovery. METHODS: A minimum ratio of 1.25:1 PVP K30: ACM was required to form stable SS, suggesting discontinuous SS. A computational complex prediction tool, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) confirmed the SS formation...

Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide. Despite the low mortality rate, rising incidence and recurrence rates are a burden on healthcare systems. Standard treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery are either invasive or toxic to healthy tissues; therefore, new, alternative, selective treatments are needed. In this work, a combined photothermal and chemotherapeutic approach is proposed. MoS2 was used as photothermal agent. It was prepared by a liquid-phase exfoliation and intercalation method using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), followed by recirculation through a custom-built high-power ultrasonication probe...
