OBJECTIVE: To investigate the polarization effect of Malibatol A on oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD)-BV-2 cells, and the possible molecular mechanism involved in c-Abl-MST signaling pathway. METHOD: The OGD BV-2 cell model was established. BV-2 cells were exposed to OGD for 8 h followed by reperfusion for 15 h with Malibatol A at different concentration of 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 μM or without it. Three new stilbene derivatives, albiraminols A (1) (resveratrol hexamer), B (2) (resveratrol dimer), and vatalbinoside F (3) (mono-glucoside of resveratrol dimer), along with malibatol were isolated from acetone soluble portions of the stem of Vatica albiramis. The structures of the isolates were established on the basis of spectroscopic analyses, including a detailed NMR spectroscopic investigation. The biosynthetic aspects of the isolates are discussed in this paper. A modular strategy for the synthesis of hexacyclic dimeric resveratrol polyphenolic benzofurans is reported. The developed synthetic technology was applied to the total synthesis of malibatol A, shoreaphenol, and other biologically relevant poly-phenols.

A highly practical route to oligostilbenoid natural products is described. A regioselective Bi(OTf)3-catalyzed cyclodehydration provided ready access to 3-arylbenzofuran. Three new oligostilbenes, malibatols A (1) and B (2) and dibalanocarpol (3), together with one known oligostilbene balanocarpol (4), were isolated from the organic extract of the leaves of Hopea malibato. The structure elucidation of these compounds was based on the interpretation of their chemical and spectral data. Compounds 3 and 4 exhibited very modest HIV-inhibitory activity, while compounds 1 and 2 were cytotoxic to the host cells (CEM SS) in the antiviral assay.
