OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the clinical and radiographic presentation of fibrous dysplasia through an 8-year retrospective study in patients who reported to the outpatient unit of the Kothiwal Dental College and Research Centre, Moradabad. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The clinical file records and radiographs of the patients who reported to the outpatient clinic in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology were retrospectively reviewed for histopathologically diagnosed fibrous dysplasia...

BACKGROUND: Fibro-osseous lesions (FOLs) are one of the commonest entities reported in the head and neck region. However, studies on these groups of lesions on Indian population were not carried out before. So this motivated us to analyze the clinico-pathologic correlation of fibro-osseous lesions reported at our hospital. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective review was made of all the lesions surgically treated in our hospital. A total of 6,175 biopsies were performed during the study period...

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to report the clinicopathologic and radiologic features of 143 benign fibro-osseous lesions (BFOLs). STUDY DESIGN: Clinical and radiologic information were retrieved from the patients files, and histologic features were reviewed from hematoxylin and eosin-stained histologic slides. RESULTS: There were 22 ossifying fibromas (OFs), 21 fibrous dysplasias (FDs) and 100 osseous dysplasias (ODs; 65 florid, 18 focal, and 17 periapical)...

BACKGROUND: There are no previously published reports on fibro-osseous jaw lesions in Thailand. The aims of this study were to determine the relative frequencies and the clinicopathologic features of these lesions in Thailand, and to compare these data with information available in the literature. METHODS: A total of 122 cases of fibro-osseous lesions of the jaws, out of a total of 4808 biopsy specimens, were collected from the files of the Department of Oral Pathology, Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, during a 34-year period from 1973 to 2006...

Orthognathic surgery is sometimes performed for fibrous dysplasia to correct malocclusion or facial asymmetry. However, Le Fort 1 osteotomy for this disease is difficult because of severe anatomical abnormality. Computer-assisted surgery is a rapidly developing technique in oral and maxillofacial surgery that is helping to ensure the safety of the surgery. We report a case of polyostotic craniofacial fibrous dysplasia in which two-jaw orthognathic surgery was performed using a navigation system with the Le Fort 1 osteotomy procedure...

This report describes a rare case of congenital oligodontia of the deciduous teeth and anodontia of the permanent teeth in a cat. According to cat's veterinarian, the patient had only two deciduous upper canines and no permanent teeth had ever erupted. Post-mortem evaluation showed a complete absence of teeth in the oral cavity and inflammatory lesions were not found on the gums. Histopathological analysis of serial sections of maxilla and mandible revealed absence of odontogenic epithelium, inflammatory cells and odontoclastic resorptive lesions...

INTRODUCTION: A study is made of the principal characteristics of the oral lesions biopsied in our Service of Oral Surgery and histologically diagnosed as corresponding to fibro-osseous lesions of the maxillas. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective review was made of all the biopsies made in a Service of Oral Surgery between 1996 and 2003. The reason for consultation was analyzed, along with patient age, sex, clinical and radiological characteristics, tentative diagnosis, histological diagnosis and treatment provided...

Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a developmental tumor like condition that is characterized by replacement of normal bone by an excessive proliferation of cellular fibrous connective tissue intermixed with irregular bony trabeculae. Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is described as a benign lesion affecting the mandible and maxilla that consists of a massive fibrohistiocytic proliferation with numerous heavily hemosiderin-laden multinucleate-giant cells. A 20 year old woman present at the Department of Oral Medicine, Dentistry School, Tehran University of Medical Sciences with a slowly growing non painful swelling of the right mandible for one year...

OBJECTIVE: Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is an uncommon, but important lesion affecting the jaws. The aim of this study was to reveal its presentation on computed tomography (CT) in a consecutive series of cases. METHODS: The files of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Hong Kong University between 1989 and 2000 were reviewed for cases of FD. RESULTS: Of the ten cases investigated by CT, two were rejected because of extensive biopsy or surgery before the CT investigation...

EXPERIMENTAL ASSAY: Retrospective study. MATERIALS AND METHODS: All the patients examined showed fibro-osseus lesions involving the mandible in eight cases, the maxilla in three cases and the frontal bone in one case...

A report of the surgical management of a patient with a panfacial fibro-osseous deformity resulting from fibrous dysplasia, hyperparathyroidism, or both, is presented as a sequel to a previous article discussing the initial work-up and diagnostic considerations. The literature pertinent to the surgical correction of fibro-osseous lesions irformed through an oral approach. Regrowth of the lesion after three years was minimal in the maxilla and approximately 20% in the mandible.
