Clinical application of doxorubicin (DOX) is limited because of its cardiotoxicity. Thus, exploration of effective lead compounds against DOX-induced cardiotoxicity is necessary. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects and possible mechanisms of dioscin against DOX-induced cardiotoxicity. The in vitro model of DOX- treated H9C2 cells and the in vivo models of DOX-treated rats and mice were used in this study. The results showed that discoin markedly increased H9C2 cell viability, decreased the levels of CK, LDH, and improved histopathological and electrocardio- gram changes in rats and mice to protect DOX-induced cardiotoxicity...

We introduce and investigate a method to identify the feature point of an electrocardiogram (ECG) to provide real-time and accurate trigger signals for pulsatile ventricular assist devices (PVADs). An important part of this method is an improved data processing algorithm, in which a differential calculator and another a low-pass filtering were added to avoid drift in the original signal and systematically delay caused by physical devices. The method was systematically illustrated in this article and a test-setup was built based on the LabVIEW program development environment...

The NAv1.5 sodium channel α subunit is the predominant α-subunit expressed in the heart and is associated with cardiac arrhythmias. We tested five previously identified SCN5A variants (rs7374138, rs7637849, rs7637849, rs7629265, and rs11129796) for an association with PR interval and QRS duration in two unique study populations: the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III, n= 552) accessed by the Epidemiologic Architecture for Genes Linked to Environment (EAGLE) and a combined dataset (n= 455) from two biobanks linked to electronic medical records from Vanderbilt University (BioVU) and Northwestern University (NUgene) as part of the electronic Medical Records & Genomics (eMERGE) network...

Anxiety is usually generated because of the threatened feeling. The data of electrocardio, respiration, blood volume pulse and skin conductance signals were collected. The arithmetic of Relief were used for the feature selection and combined with k-Nearest Neighbor (kNN) arithmetic and Support Vector Machine (SVM) arithmetic for classification. The results show that the combination of Relief-SVM is better than combination of Relief-kNN on the recognition of anxiety state. The emotion recognition based on multi-physiological signals is superior to that based on one single signal...

Background and aims. Only half to two-thirds of cardiovascular diseases can be explained by the classic risk factors. It is believed that chronic oral inflammation is a potent risk factor for systemic diseases. Studies show that electrocardiogram ST segment changes can be predictive of myocardial infarction outcome. In this study the relation between electrocardio-gram ST segment changes and oral health is evaluated. Materials and methods. In this cross-sectional study, thirty-six patients (14 females and 22 males) with myocardial infarction were enrolled...

OBJECTIVES: Methadone and cocaine are each known to prolong the QTc interval, a risk factor for developing potentially fatal cardiac arrhythmias. Disulfiram, often administered in the context of methadone maintenance to facilitate alcohol abstinence, has been shown to have some efficacy for cocaine dependence. Disulfiram has differential effects on cocaine and methadone metabolism, but its impact on methadone- or cocaine-induced changes in QTc interval is unclear. Thus, the effects of disulfiram on QTc interval in a subset of cocaine-dependent patients participating in a 14-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of disulfiram were prospectively determined...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy and safety of intravenous ibutilide for conversion of atrial fibrillation (AF) and flutter (AFL) to sinus rhythm. METHODS: Ninety-nine consecutive patients aged 18-75 y with AF/AFL were included. The duration of arrhythmia was <90 d (1 h-90 d) and ventricular rate was >60 beats/min. Patients were assigned randomly into two groups: 49 patients in ibutilide group received ibutilide 1 mg, then repeated if AF/AFL was not converted after 10 min; 50 patients in propafenone group received propafenone 70 mg, then repeated if AF/AFL persisted after 10 min...

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) is characterized by clinical and electrocardio-graphic signs that mimic myocardial ischemia, typical left ventricular kinesis abnormalities, and no evidence of obstructive coronary disease. It is associated with emotional or physical stress usually in postmenopausal women. A major pathogenetic role is played by excessive sympathetic stimulation of the left ventricle. Only two cases of TTC have been described in patients on hemodialysis and one case has been described in a patient on peritoneal dialysis associated with peritonitis...

BACKGROUND: The formulas for heart rate (HR) correction of QT interval have been shown to overcorrect or undercorrect this interval with changes in HR. A Holter-monitoring method avoiding the need for any correction formulas is proposed as a means to assess drug-induced QT interval changes. METHODS: A thorough QT study included 2 single doses of the alpha1-adrenergic receptor blocker alfuzosin, placebo, and a QT-positive control arm (moxifloxacin) in 48 healthy subjects...

Electrocardiographic abnormalities, cardiac injury, and autonomic nervous function were investigated in patients with acute-phase subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) (42 patients with SAH related to ruptured aneurysm and 42 control subjects). Electrocardiogram and Holter electrocardiogram for spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) were recorded. Concentrations of cardiogenic enzymes (ie, creatine kinase-myocardial fraction [CK-MB], myosin light chain I, and troponin T), plasma concentrations of catecholamine (ie, noradrenaline, adrenaline, 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-phenylethylene glycol [MHPG]) and HRV were compared in the acute and chronic phase of SAH, and with the values in the controls subjects...

Cardiac failure with normal systolic function represents 30 to 50% of all the cardiac failures. Ther is no clinical radiographical electrocardio graphical symptom to characterize this Kind of Cardiac failure. It's diagnosis and its valuation could be done with doppler chocardiography. The etiology is dominated by the ischemic cardopathy, the hpertophic myocardis fathies and senile heart. It's treatment isn't codified Yet.

In this experiment, we measured ECG signals of lead I, respectively, during normal and arrhythmia after 20 rabbits were anaesthetized. These signals were recorded, then the information was put into a computer and it analyzed Autocorrelation (AC) Function, and Power Spectrum. The results make us know: (1) periodicity corresponding relationship of ECG in normal rabbits can derive reflects from changes of ECG AC function changes of ECG signals in arrhythmia rabbits can derive relatively sensitive reflection from changes of ECG function (attenuating area S and the value of k) in normal rabbits...
