BACKGROUND: Screening asthma patients for atopy facilitates management. Since 2010, the core biomarker for screening asthma subjects for atopic status has been the qualitative Phadiatop. multi-aeroallergen screen. A more quantitative macroarray, the Allergy Explorer (ALEX2 ), shows promise as an alternative. OBJECTIVE: The study's goal was to examine the pros and cons of the use of ALEX2 in the screening of asthma patients for atopic status. METHODS: We evaluated the atopic (IgE-sensitization) status in asthmatic Amish and Hutterite farm children using the ImmunoCAP and ALEX2 assays in Phadiatop equivocal and positive subjects...

Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is characterized by high proteinuria (over 3,5g/24 hrs), hypalbuminaemia, general edemas and hypercoagulation. Beside of primary glomerulonephritides this is found in secundary glomerulopaties eg. diabetes, systemic inflammatory diseases, oncology, damage by drugs and poisoning, by alergy, serious infections and in children from hereditary reasons. The most frequent reason for NS in adults patiens is diabetes and diabetes with nephropathy represents almost 40% of dialysed patiens. From this point of view, there is great interest focusing on gliflozins (SGLT2 inhibitors) with positive nephroprotecive effect...

INTRODUCTION: Correct identification of the patient with an allergy is critical for patient safety, since it involves a potential risk of a serious adverse event (AE). Our Emergency Pediatric department has an integrated quality management and risk management system focused on the continuous improvement of patient care quality and safety, which incident reporting system could identified a potential risk arising from the registration of allergies in new computer softwares. As a safety barrier, an allergy identification procedure was implemented, using a sticker placed on the identification bracelet (RED: allergy; WHITE: non-allergies)...

This second joint document, written by experts from the Brazilian Association of Allergy and Immunology (ASBAI) and Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology (SBA) concerned with perioperative anaphylaxis, aims to review the pathophysiological reaction mechanisms, triggering agents (in adults and children), and the approach for diagnosis during and after an episode of anaphylaxis. As anaphylaxis assessment is extensive, the identification of medications, antiseptics and other substances used at each setting, the comprehensive data documentation, and the use of standardized nomenclature are key points for obtaining more consistent epidemiological information on perioperative anaphylaxis...

Allergic diseases (AD) have been one of the most urgent problems on nowadays worldwide. In some countries with a high AD prevalence according to ISAAC Phase One, compared to ISAAC Phase Three, especially in English-speaking countries, there is a tendency to reduction of respiratory symptoms prevalence, while in other countries, on the contrary, it continues to grow. The aim of the study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the prevalence of asthma, rhinitis and eczema in the Kyiv region of Ukraine in the dynamics for the period 2017-2018 and 1998-1999, to understand current epidemiological trends...

THE AIM: The aim of this thesis was to elucidate more differences between a familial and sporadic inflammatory bowel disease by comparing certain clinical data. METHODS: We assessed 248 patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) observed in 1994-2004 in the Academic Department of Gastroenterology at the Medical Faculty in Hradec Králové. To get information about the defined characters we obtained from the questionary and the hospital data. RESULTS: We did not identify any relationship between the onset of the disease and a certain age group, yet males seem to be more prone to familial Crohn's disease...

Food-processing is one of the industries characterized by high exposure to occupational allergens. Exposure to allergens of plant or animal origin is most extensive during food processing, including meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, dairy products, and grain products as well as during production of animal feed and other foodstuffs. Respiratory diseases are the major problem in the food processing industry. It is essential to better recognize the structure of food allergens and mechanisms by which they induce diseases to identify risk factors and health problems which may occur in workers...

The aim of the study was examination of MPB70 protein production by different BCG substrains and testing this protein as reagent in allergenic skin test on BCG vaccinated guinea pigs. Three BCG substrains: Danish 1331 (D), Japanese 172 (J) and Polish BCG Moreau (P) were used for the study. The protein MPB70 received from dr Nagai from Osaka University was used as reference preparation. It has been shown that MPB70 protein of molecular weight about 21,500 Da was present only in BCG Moreau (P) and Japanese (J) substrains...

Drug alergy is always a risk in Therapeutics. Penicillin allergy although less frequent than usually though, is very important because sometimes is life threatening. Penicillin allergy is an immunological phenomenon, it is possible to use in vitro and in vivo procedures able to demonstrate individual ability to develop allergical reaction, in particular to predict such severe reactions like anaphilaxis. This paper review current concepts regarding immune mechanisms for Penicillin allergy and immunological testing useful in its study...
