The similarity of the dissolution time profiles is routinely determined by various statistical methods, e.g. by calculating the f2 similarity factor, by calculating the multivariate statistical distance or determining the confidence interval of f2 metrics using the bootstrapping method. If the similarity of the dissolution profiles is not achieved, these methods provide no information about the possible causes of the differences in the final dosage forms. In this article it is shown that after introduction of summary parameters into the disintegration-dissolution model (DDM), such as intrinsic lifetime distribution of particles, saturation state function, drug load of the system and applying population data analysis, differences on the level of intrinsic lifetime distributions of particles of active pharmaceutical ingredient in immediately release formulations are identified...

This paper features two studies confirming a lasting impact of first learning on how subsequent experience is weighted in early relevance-filtering processes. In both studies participants were exposed to sequences of sound that contained a regular pattern on two different timescales. Regular patterning in sound is readily detected by the auditory system and used to form "prediction models" that define the most likely properties of sound to be encountered in a given context. The presence and strength of these prediction models is inferred from changes in automatically elicited components of auditory evoked potentials...

PURPOSE: Data-driven gating (DDG) approaches for positron emission tomography (PET) are interesting alternatives to conventional hardware-based gating methods. In DDG, the measured PET data themselves are utilized to calculate a respiratory signal that is subsequently used for gating purposes. The success of gating is then highly dependent on the statistical quality of the PET data. In this study we investigate how this quality determines signal noise and thus motion resolution in clinical PET scans using a center-of-mass-based (COM) DDG approach, specifically with regard to motion management of target structures in future radiotherapy planning applications...

Purpose: The patient-centered medical home (PCMH) model has been proposed as the ideal model for delivering primary care and is focused on improving patient safety and quality, reducing costs, and enhancing patient satisfaction. The mandated Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education educational milestones for evaluation of resident competency represent the skills graduates will utilize after graduation. Many of these skills are reflected in the PCMH model. We sought to determine if residency programs whose main family medicine (FM) practice sites have achieved PCMH recognition are therefore more prepared to evaluate milestones...

BACKGROUND: Telomere length in peripheral blood leukocytes (PBL-TL) was proposed as a biomarker of cancer risk. Recent scientific evidence suggested PBL-TL plays a diverse role in different cancers. Inconsistent results were obtained on PBL-TL in relation to breast cancer risk and specifically to the presence of BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations. The aim of the present case-control study was to analyse the correlation between family history of breast cancer or presence of a BRCA mutation and PBL-TL in the hypothesis that TL is a modifier of cancer risk...

Binding of odorants to olfactory receptors (ORs) elicits downstream chemical and neural signals, which are further processed to odor perception in the brain. Recently, Mainland and colleagues have measured more than 500 pairs of odorant-OR interaction by a high-throughput screening assay method, opening a new avenue to understanding the principles of human odor coding. Here, using a recently developed minimal model for OR activation kinetics, we characterize the statistics of OR activation by odorants in terms of three empirical parameters: the half-maximum effective concentration EC50, the efficacy, and the basal activity...

Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been shown to be prognostic in several solid malignancies. There are limited data regarding its value during novel therapies in patients with melanoma. The aim of the study was to assess the practical utility of this ratio in patients with BRAF-mutant melanoma treated with a combination of BRAF and MEK inhibitors (BRAFi/MEKi). We included 215 patients with inoperable or metastatic melanoma who underwent BRAFi/MEKi treatment between October 2015 and June 2017. Baseline NLR and other complete blood count-derived inflammatory markers were tested for association with overall survival and progression-free survival in univariate and multivariate models...

BACKGROUND: A "Table Fallacy," as coined by Westreich and Greenland, reports multiple adjusted effect estimates from a single model. This practice, which remains common in published literature, can be problematic when different types of effect estimates are presented together in a single table. The purpose of this paper is to quantitatively illustrate this potential for misinterpretation with an example estimating the effects of preeclampsia on preterm birth. METHODS: We analysed a retrospective population-based cohort of 2 963 888 singleton births in California between 2007 and 2012...

Within modern psychology, computational and statistical models play an important role in describing a wide variety of human behavior. Model selection analyses are typically used to classify individuals according to the model(s) that best describe their behavior. These classifications are inherently probabilistic, which presents challenges for performing group-level analyses, such as quantifying the effect of an experimental manipulation. We answer this challenge by presenting a method for quantifying treatment effects in terms of distributional changes in model-based (i...
