BACKGROUND/AIM: Transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) is the most frequent tumor of the bladder and represents 95-98% of blader neoplasams and 2-3% of all carcinomas in the body. In urogenital oncology more frequent is only prostatic cancer. Evaluation of the depth of infiltration of urothelial carcinoma in the vesical wall represents the clinical base in treatment planning and prognosis. Clinical investigation and convential radiological procedures have a low level of accuracy in estimating the local growth of the tumor...

A 60-year-old male, who had been maintained on hemodialysis for 4 years, visited our hospital to receive living renal transplantation. He complained of macrohematuria, and preoperative examination showed elevation of psostate specific antigen (PSA). Cystoscopy revealed papillary tumors on the right lateral bladder wall. Transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TUR-Bt) was performed and histopathological examination showed transitional cell carcinoma, G2, pTa. The histologic diagnosis of the transrectal needle prostate biopsy specimen was moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma...

The floor plate is an organising centre that controls neural differentiation and axonogenesis in the neural tube. The axon guidance molecule Netrin1 is expressed in the floor plate of zebrafish embryos. To elucidate the regulatory mechanisms underlying expression in the floor plate, we scanned the netrin1 locus for regulatory regions and identified an enhancer that drives expression in the floor plate and hypochord of transgenic embryos. The expression of the transgene is ectopically activated by Cyclops (Nodal) signals but does not respond to Hedgehog signals...

Proteins of the Netrin family have been implicated in axon guidance in both C. elegans and vertebrates. Here, we report the cloning and expression analysis of a zebrafish netrin homologue (net1). net1 is expressed in the floor plate and the anterior ventral neural tube. Its expression is ectopically induced by misexpression of sonic hedgehog (shh) and a dominant negative mutant of the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (dnReg). Ectopic activation of net1, however, is restricted to distinct regions in the brain...

In a 10-year period 35 patients underwent a proximal amputation of the upper limb because of a malignant tumor. In 27 patients a forequarter amputation was made, in one a humeroscapular disarticulation and in seven an amputation through the humerus. The observed 5-year survival was 23 per cent. Twelve out of 23 patients followed for at least 3 years also survived 3 years. Fifteen living patients were questioned concerning prosthetic use and social and psychologic factors. Only three patients used a functional (mechanical) prosthesis and only five used a cosmetic prosthesis...
