Salmonellosis is an important disease frequently associated with diarrhea in calves. From January to September 2009, a cross-sectional study involving 91 dairy farms was conducted to determine the prevalence of Salmonella spp. infection in cattle in Al-Dhulail Valley, Jordan. A total of 910 calve and cow fecal samples were collected. Information on farm management practices was obtained through personal interviews using a standardized questionnaire and was tested as risk factors for Salmonella spp. positivity in farms by using logistic regression analysis...

OBJECTIVE: To test the activity of a small molecule compound that targets Lipid II against Acinetobacter baumannii. METHODS: Susceptibility to small molecule Lipid II inhibitor BAS00127538 was assessed using carbapenem- and colistin-resistant clinical isolates of A. baumannii. In addition, synergy between colisitin and this compound was assessed. RESULTS: Small molecule Lipid II inhibitor BAS00127538 potently acts against A. baumannii and acts synergistically with colistin...

BACKGROUND: Lower respiratory tract infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) occurs in most people with cystic fibrosis. Once chronic infection is established, P. aeruginosa is virtually impossible to eradicate and is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. Early infection may be easier to eradicate. OBJECTIVES: To determine whether antibiotic treatment of early P. aeruginosa infection in children and adults with cystic fibrosis eradicates the organism and improves clinical and microbiological outcome...

The objective of this study was to quantify the deposition in the lung of a Colistine aerosol generated using a pneumatic nebuliser (Pari LL(R) equipped with a Pari Master, Pari, Germany) and to compare this with the results obtained with an ultrasonic nebuliser (DP100, DP Medical, France) in four subjects suffering from cystic fibrosis being colonised with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. To quantify the pulmonary deposition of the aerosols we have used an indirect isotopic method which consists in assimilating the kinetics of the molecules studied with a serum albumin tagged with Technetium 99m (Tc99mm) and added to a preparation of Colistine...
