The aim of this work was to review the current recommendations for staging and response assessment of patients with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in routine clinical practice after chemotherapy and/or stem cell transplantation. A five-point scale (5-PS) from the First International Workshop on PET in Lymphoma in Deauville, France, in 2009, was recommended as the standard tool to score imaging to assess treatment response in patients with lymphoma using (18)F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT...

OBJECTIVE: To explore the prognostic value of interim (18)F-FDG PET/CT (i-PET/CT) scan for the patients with newly diagnosed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). METHODS: A total of 70 cases of initially diagnosed of DLBCL by 158 (18)F-FDG PET/CT scans in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. The 5-point scale, the Lugano classification and maximum standardized uptake value induction (ΔSUVmax) criteria were used respectively to assess i-PET/CT scans. Receiver-operating characteristics (ROC) analysis was used to determine an optimal cutoff for ΔSUVmax...

In recent years, the number of approved and investigational agents that can be safely administered for the treatment of lymphoma patients for a prolonged period of time has substantially increased. Many of these novel agents are evaluated in early-phase clinical trials in patients with a wide range of malignancies, including solid tumors and lymphoma. Furthermore, with the advances in genome sequencing, new "basket" clinical trial designs have emerged that select patients based on the presence of specific genetic alterations across different types of solid tumors and lymphoma...

BACKGROUND: Advanced age is an independent poor prognostic factor of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. PMitCEBO is an alternative to CHOP to decrease side effects in elderly patients. Many studies have shown prognostic value of an interim FDG PET-CT to predict survival. A recent consensus (ICML, Lugano 2013) has suggested using the 5-point scale Deauville criteria instead of those of the international harmonization project (IHP) to visually assess the response on interim PET. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of an interim FDG PET-CT in patients older than 60 with treated DLBCL and to compare IHP and 5-PS Deauville visual interpretation to predict survival...

A 71-year-old Japanese man was diagnosed as having stage I primary follicular lymphoma (FL) of the duodenum according to Lugano International Conference Classification and began receiving annual checkups. Endoscopic examination disclosed white villi swelling with depressed red mucosal lesions. Biopsy specimens from the area of white villi exhibited histopathological features that met the diagnostic criteria for low-grade FL. The depressed red lesions gradually enlarged over six years of follow-up. A biopsy of the white villi swelling revealed distinct well-circumscribed follicles with attenuated mantles in the lamina propria that were positive for CD20, bcl-2, and CD10...

PURPOSE: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a pathologically heterogeneous disease with different prognoses according to its molecular profiles. Despite the broad usage of (18)F-fluoro-2-dexoxy-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT), previous studies that have investigated the value of interim (18)F-FDG PET/CT in DLBCL have given the controversial results. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of interim (18)F-FDG PET/CT in DLBCL according to germinal center B cell-like (GCB) and non-GCB molecular profiling...

Uniformly adopted response criteria are essential for assessment of therapies incorporating conventional chemotherapy and chemoimmunotherapy regimens. Recently, immunomodulatory agents, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors, have demonstrated impressive activity in a broad range of lymphoma histologies. However, these agents may be associated with clinical and imaging findings during treatment suggestive of progressive disease (PD) despite evidence of clinical benefit (eg, tumor flare or pseudo-progression)...

BACKGROUND: Recent advances in the use of the imaging modalities, especially PET/CT, and their utilization for determining clinical stage (CS) and assessment treatment response (TR) in malignant lymphomas, along with development of prognostic tools and new treatment modalities, formed the basis for the revised criteria for evaluating CS and TR (published as the Lugano classification, 2014). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The authors summarize the new Lugano recommendations (published in 2014) and the changes from the criteria published in 2007...

Lymphoma comprises a heterogeneous group of diseases; remarkable advances have been made in diagnosis and treatment. Diagnostic imaging provides important information for staging and response assessment in patients with lymphoma. Over the years, staging systems have been refined, and dedicated criteria have been developed for evaluating response to therapy with both computed tomography (CT) and fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (PET)/CT. The most recent system proposed for staging and response assessment, known as the Lugano classification, applies to both Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma...

Standardized response criteria for lymphoma are critical for the evaluation of new therapies. Widely adopted recommendations, most recently the Lugano classification, have been developed primarily for assessment of conventional chemotherapeutic regimens. More recently, several classes of drugs, including immunomodulatory agents, B cell receptor pathway targeting kinases, and checkpoint (PD-1, PDL-1) inhibitors have demonstrated impressive activity in a broad range of histologies. However, they may be associated with features during treatment suggestive of progressive disease despite clinical benefit...

Staging and response criteria were initially developed for Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) over 60 years ago, but not until 1999 were response criteria published for non-HL (NHL). Revisions to these criteria for both NHL and HL were published in 2007 by an international working group, incorporating PET for response assessment, and were widely adopted. After years of experience with these criteria, a workshop including representatives of most major international lymphoma cooperative groups and cancer centers was held at the 11(th) International Conference on Malignant Lymphoma (ICML) in June, 2011 to determine what changes were needed...

PURPOSE: Recent advances in imaging, use of prognostic indices, and molecular profiling techniques have the potential to improve disease characterization and outcomes in lymphoma. International trials are under way to test image-based response–adapted treatment guided by early interim positron emission tomography (PET)–computed tomography (CT). Progress in imaging is influencing trial design and affecting clinical practice. In particular, a five-point scale to grade response using PET-CT, which can be adapted to suit requirements for early- and late-response assessment with good interobserver agreement, is becoming widely used both in practice- and response-adapted trials...

Pts ≥ 10 years received after tumororchiectomy 2 courses (crs) PVB and restaging. Residual tumor was resected and therapy continued in regard to inital stage and response. STUDY QUESTION: Is it feasible to identify factors that significantly affect the clinical outcome of IVF-ICSI cycles and use them to reliably design a predictor of implantation? SUMMARY ANSWER: The Bayesian network (BN) identified top-history embryos, female age and the insemination technique as the most relevant factors for predicting the occurrence of pregnancy (AUC, area under curve, of 0.72). In addition, it could discriminate between no implantation and single or twin implantations in a prognostic model that can be used prospectively...
