Objective: To evaluate whether uterosacral ligament (USL) thickness measured using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was associated with overactive bladder (OAB) in otherwise healthy women. Materials and Methods: The study comprised 27 women with OAB and 27 healthy women (control group) who were followed up at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of a tertiary referral center. All subjects were evaluated using pelvic MRI to determine the transverse USL thickness...

Objective: We aimed to investigate the correlation of the size and volume of uterine tumors obtained using positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and pathology specimens in patients with endometrioid-type endometrial cancer (EEC) in the premenopausal period, and to compare the results with those of postmenopausal women. In the premenopausal period, the endometrium uses more glucose than in the postmenopausal period. Therefore, the measurement of uterine tumor size using PET/CT in the premenopausal period may normally be different...

Objective: When bound to the inhibitory kappa B (IкB) protein, the transcription factor nuclear factor kappa B (NF-кB) remains inactively in the cytoplasm. Activated NF-кB upregulates the gene expression of many chemokines including monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and interleukin (IL)-8. We hypothesized that estrogen may regulate IкB phosphorylation and degradation thus influencing NF-кB-dependent gene expression. Regulation of chemokines by estrogen is different in uterine endometrial cells when compared to ectopic endometrial cells of endometriosis...

Objective: To determine the perceived social stigma and familial attitides and perception of sexuality in infertile couples attending infertility clinics. Materials and Methods: Infertile couples attending infertility clinics between the years of 2014 and 2015 were requested to complete detailed evaluation forms including questions related to the social stigma on their infertility, their familial attitudes, and perception of sexuality. Any partner of the infertile couple accepting to enroll in the study was given the evaluation forms...

Objective: Pooling is an alternative method to achieve in vitro fertilization outcomes. This study was to investigate the effect of pooling method on pregnancy outcomes in poor responder patients according to Bologna criteria. Materials and Methods: Two hundred-fifty five poor responder patients were enrolled in this study. Pooling embryo transfer (ET) group had 110 and fresh ET group had 145 patients. Results: Although, age was similar between both treatment groups (p=0...

Objective: Endometriosis is seen in women during their reproductive period, where stromal tissue and functional endometrial glands of the uterus are observed outside the uterine cavity. In this study, we aimed to identify the clinical characteristics of our patients who underwent surgery with scar endometriosis and to discuss the surgical results in light of the literature. Materials and Methods: A total of 24 patients who underwent surgery and diagnosed as having endometriosis as the result of a pathologic examination were retrospectively evaluated...

Objective: Early detection of high-risk pregnancies for Down syndrome (DS) is the main target of offering prenatal diagnosis. Segmental duplication-quantitative fluorescent-polymerase chain reaction (SD-QF-PCR) can be used as an alternative method for prenatal diagnosis of DS. SD-QF-PCR involves SD sequences between the test and control chromosomes to detect aneuploidies. SD are two similar sequences with different fragment lengths, located on two different chromosomes. When these SD regions are amplified, the peak ratio between the two different chromosomes remains as 0...

Objective: To investigate whether there was a difference in pregnancy outcomes between modified natural cycle frozen-thawed embryo transfer (NC-FET) cycles and artificial cycles (AC)-FET in women who all had regular menstrual cycles. Materials and Methods: One hundred seventy patients who met the inclusion criteria and had at least two cryopreserved embryos were included in a prospective randomized controlled trial. Eighty-five patients were randomized based on Bernoulli distribution into the following two groups: 1) Modified NC-FET using human chorionic gonadotropin for ovulation induction and 2) AC-FET, in which endometrial timing was programmed with estrogen and progesterone...

Materials and Methods: The records of all women who underwent EPH from January 2000 to December 2015 in two major tertiary care hospitals in Dubai were accessed and reviewed. Maternal characteristics, hysterectomy indications, outcomes, and postoperative complications were recorded using descriptive statistics to describe the cohort...

About 4% of male patients with cancer are under the age of 35 years. With the current increase in efficacy and safety of therapies, a growing number of young adults can achieve long-term survival. In male patients receiving systemic chemotherapy and or bone marrow transplantation, a permanent loss of fertility is a common adverse effect. The only possibility to preserve the patient's fertility is to spare the gametes or gamete-forming cells from the chemotherapeutic effect. In adults, this can be achieved by the cryopreservation of spermatozoa with the subsequent application of assisted reproductive technology...

Uterine rupture during pregnancy is associated with high mortality and morbidity rates in both the fetus and the mother. Hysteroscopic surgeries such as myomectomy and septum resection are known risk factors for uterine rupture in pregnancy following the operation. We present four infertile patients who were admitted to Kocaeli Medical Park Hospital between February 2014 and November 2016. Three of the patients underwent hysteroscopic septum resection without complication and one had hysteroscopic myomectomy and a 7-8 mm sized rupture was detected...

Cesarean scar ectopic pregnancies and molar pregnancies are two very rare obstetric pathologies. In both cases, serious morbidities are involved that require careful management. The coexistence of the two clinical conditions is far less common and there are a limited number of cases in the literature. In this case report, a 34-year-old patient with previous cesarean section was diagnosed as having a molar pregnancy in a cesarean scar through ultrasonography. The patient was asymptomatic at that time. Ultrasonography revealed a protruding mass at the cesarean section and her human chorionic gonadotropin level was measured as 59...

Objective: Sleep disorders affect 54.9% of gynaecologic cancer survivors. The effect of treatment methods on sleep quality is not clear. This study evaluated the sleep quality of survivors of endometrial cancer and compared the effects of different treatments on sleep quality. Materials and Methods: Patients were categorised as surgery (group 1), surgery + brachytherapy (BRT) (group 2), surgery + external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) (group 3), and surgery + EBRT + BRT + chemotherapy (group 4)...

Objective: A permanent balance exists between the production and elimination of reactive oxygen species in all living organisms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of sevoflurane possibly causing an imbalance in the equation of reactive oxygen species on the female rat reproductive system. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 adult female Wistar-albino rats were placed into an anesthesia chamber to administer sevoflurane. Rats were randomly divided into six groups, each group consisting of five rats: the control group received 2 L/min O2 18 min/day for seven days; the first group received 1 minimum alveolar concentration (MAC) of sevoflurane and 2 L/min O2 18 min/day for seven days; the second group received 1 MAC of sevoflurane and 2 L/min O2 18 min/day for seven days with no treatment for the next seven days; the third group received 1 MAC of sevoflurane and 2 L/min O2 18 min/day for 14 days; the fourth group received 1 MAC of sevoflurane and 2 L/min O2 18 min/day for 14 days with no treatment for the next seven days; and the fifth group received 1 MAC of sevoflurane and 2 L/min O2 18 min/day for 14 days with no treatment for the next 14 days...

Objective: Increased leptin hormone and leptin receptor may enhance the generation of proinflammatory cytokines by endothelial cells and lead to endothelial dysfunction. This study assessed the umbilical cord endothelial leptin receptor levels in preeclampsia and investigated the effect of leptin on endothelial interleukin-8 (IL-8) production. Materials and Methods: The association between IL-8 levels with leptin stimulation was investigated in leptin-treated human endothelial cells...
