Integrated positron-emission tomography-magnetic resonance imaging (PET-MRI) is a new hybrid simultaneous imaging modality with higher soft tissue contrast and lower radiation doses compared with PET-CT. Two patients who were referred to our hospital with left breast masses that were pathologically diagnosed as invasive ductal carcinoma. The women were then scanned using the first PET-MRI system in Turkey, which was established in our department. In this case report, we aimed to determine the advantages of PET-MRI in staging, follow-up, neoadjuvant chemotherapy response, and to compare the usefulness of this modality with PET-CT and dynamic contrast-enhanced breast MRI...

A woman aged 50 years was diagnosed as having an invasive ductal carcinoma in the right breast and ductal carcinoma in situ in the left breast and underwent bilateral mastectomy eight years ago. A mass was identified during follow-up in positron-emission tomography (PET) image in the left infraclavicular region, indicating metastasis. Histopathologic examination showed a mass of 1.9 × 1 × 0.7 cm in dimensions characterized by spindle or round nuclei cells that formed island or cords in hyaline and myxoid ground and intracytoplasmic vacuoles containing erythrocytes...

OBJECTIVE: Mammography-screening (MS) rates remain low in underdeveloped populations. We aimed to find the barriers against MS in a low socioeconomic population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Women aged 40-69 years who lived in the least developed city in Turkey (Mus), were targeted. A survey was used to question breast cancer (BC) knowledge and health practices. RESULTS: In total, 2054 women were surveyed (participation rate: 85%). The MS rate was 35%...

OBJECTIVE: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women worldwide. It is indicated that increased body mass index elevates the risk of developing breast cancer, worsens prognosis, and decreases survival. Several polymorphisms of adiponectin have been shown to affect serum levels of adiponectin and their association with breast cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the adiponectin 45T/G and 276 G/T gene polymorphism and breast cancer in the East Marmara region...

It has a higher mortality rate in low and middle income countries due to the late-stage diagnosis. The principal aim of this study was to investigate what patients with breast cancer did before presenting to Turgut Özal Medical Center and its relationship with late stage diagnosis. The study also aimed to identify the level of patients' perceived social support. Metaplastic Breast Cancer (MBC) is a term referring to a heterogeneous group with malignant epithelial and mesenchymal tissue components. MBC is a rare disease, accounting for 0.2% of all breast cancers. Most MBC are triple negative cancers with poor prognosis and an aggressive clinical course. Herein, we aimed to present a 74-year-old patient with metaplastic breast cancer along with clinical, radiologic and pathologic properties.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is a slow-growing, local aggressive fibrous tumor of the subcutaneous tissue, frequently seen in the proximal extremities and the trunk. Its occurrence in the breast is very rare. Herein, we present a female who presented with a breast mass, and aim to discuss pathological features and differential diagnosis of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans. A 44-year-old female presented to our clinic with a mass on her breast. Physical examination revealed a 8×5.5 cm mass with multilobular nodules on the skin in the lower inner quadrant of her right breast...

Matrix-producing carcinoma (MPC) is an uncommon variant of metaplastic carcinoma. It was first described by Wargotz and Norris in 1989 as invasive breast carcinoma with direct transition to cartilaginous stroma without intervening spindle cell component. Since then, several studies, mostly in the form of case reports or case series, have been reported and the origin of tumor cell, importance of appropriate terminology for the tumor, histopathological differential diagnosis, benign breast lesions that the tumor could correlate with, and prognosis and consequently the treatment modalities have been discussed...

They are classified into capillary, cavernous, and venous hemangıomas. Cavernous hemangıoma is the most common subtype. Cavernous hemangıomas are benign vascular tumors, which malformatıon from mature blood vessels. Although it is considered benign, evidence of malignant transformation is available. Cancer development may be from ground of fibroadenoma or near breast tissue. The patient presented with the chief complaint of having a palpable mass in her right breast for the last 10 years...

This study aimed presenting a case of a 64-year-old woman with a rare diagnosis of myofibroblastoma (MFB). MFB is one of the rare, benign, spindle-like stromal tumors arising from the connective tissue of the breast. MFBs are often confused with fibroadenomas and hamartomas because of their benign characteristic appearance on breast imaging and are diagnosed after excisional biopsies. Their differential diagnosis with malignant neoplasia of the breast is important because of their wide morphological spectrum...
