Endometriosis is a disease of theories, but none has succeeded to explain the whole picture. Most widely available drugs for endometriosis aim to relieve symptoms and improve fertility. Unfortunately, many short and long-term side-effects are associated with the treatments. To overcome this problem, researchers have developed many novel therapeutic agents, including non-invasive technique. We aim to provide new insights on pathogenesis model and novel non-surgical treatments for endometriosis, including drugs already available in the market and also drugs which are still under research...

The Study Group of Gynecological Endoscopy (AGE) has a growing number of members each year. This is an acknowledgment as well as a challenge for the study group. The challenges were faced in the form of exemplary cooperative work by the core members of AGE, the Velen Study Group for Ambulant Surgery (VAAO), the Foundation of Endometriosis Research (SEF), the Study Group of Urogynecology and Plastic Pelvic Floor Reconstruction (AGUB), the Study Group for Robotic-assisted Surgery in Gynecology (ARCGyn), and the Study Group of Gynecological Oncology (AGO)...

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether there were any differences in preoperative and postoperative anxiety in patients who underwent total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) (n=37) and total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH) (n=37). MATERIAL AND METHODS: All premenopausal patients who underwent TLH or TAH because of benign uterine disorders were enrolled. The anxiety status was assessed 6 hours before and after the operation using standardized validated questionnaires: State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)...

OBJECTIVE: C1q/tumor necrosis factor-related protein-5 (CTRP5) is a novel secreted peptide hormone involved in metabolism of energy regulation. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) which is a reproductive and metabolic disorder is associated with insulin resistance. The target of the current study was comparison of circulating levels of CTRP5 in women with and without PCOS and investigation of possible associations between CTRP5 and metabolic-hormonal parameters. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The present cross-sectional study contained a group of 80 women with PCOS and a group of 80 women without PCOS with having age- and body mass index-matched...

Objective: Besides its hematopoietic function, the erythropoietin (EPO) may protect tissues from degenerative disorders. As such, EPO and its receptors were revealed in nonhematopoietic cells, including stromal and endometrial epithelial- cells. However, the role of EPO in endometrial disorders was still unknown. Here we aimed to examine the role of EPO and its receptor activation in the development of endometriosis in rats. Material and Methods: Animals were treated with EPO, darbepoietin (synthetic form of EPO) or EPO's receptor activator, Mircera, after development of endometriosis...

An autopsy examination was performed in 177 (17.8%) out of the cohort. When the files were reviewed maternal descriptive data and the cause of maternal mortality according to the autopsy reports were recorded...

Material and Methods: We present a retrospective series of consecutive patients affected by pathology-proven TED, treated at our institution, during a period of 7 years. Results: Five women were included. Two cases were referred due to catamenial chest/shoulder pain, one due to recurrent catamenial pneumothorax, one due to new-onset diaphragmatic hernia...

OBJECTIVE: Hypericum perforatum (HP) is widely used for depression and distress treatment as an over-the-counter plant in any age. This study investigated the safety of HP on ovarian functions and infertility. MATERIAL AND METHODS: HP given to the rats in two different doses (100 and 300 mg/kg/day) with drinking water for four weeks. Half of the treatment groups have been sacrificed at the end of four weeks intervention, remained have been sacrificed after additional waiting period for four weeks to see reversibility if there is...

Patients randomly divided into two groups of fennel ( n = 25) and placebo ( n= 25). The measurements were carried out at the baseline and after three months through Menopause-Specific Quality of Life (MENQOL) questionnaire. RESULTS: Both placebo and treatment groups revealed significant improvement in the hot flush score ( p< 0...

This book addresses the management of endometriosis from a holistic approach, including theoretical principles, conservative treatment of the condition, diagnostic and surgical procedures, as well as the outcome of research. Endometriosis and its treatment are complex issues. We believe that a combination of treatment modalities is needed in order to effectively address the pain, infertility and other difficulties associated with endometriosis. In addition to theory and scientific principles, minimally invasive surgical procedures for the treatment of endometriosis are described in a stepwise manner...

OBJECTIVE: Thyroid hormone abnormalities are commonly seen in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and have considerable effects on comorbidities. The association with PCOS and thyroid autoimmunity which lead to thyroid pathologies are not revealed clearly. We targeted to commentate anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO), anti-thyroglobulin (anti-TG) antibody levels and thyroid autoimmunity in PCOS. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 184 patients who got the diagnosis of PCOS regard to the revised 2003 Rotterdam criteria were embodied in this study...

Cancer during pregnancy is a particularly challenging complication. The incidence has increased in recent years due to childbearing at advanced maternal ages due to career choices and/or the development of reproductive technology. Approximately two thirds of cancer cases during pregnancy comprise invasive cervical cancers and breast cancer. Cancer during gestation is characterized by a need for specialized treatment due to major changes in the hormonal profile (estrogen-progesterone), metabolism (enhancement of anabolism), hemodynamic changes (hyperdynamic circulation), immunologic changes (cell-mediated and humoral immunity), and increased angiogenesis (increased blood flow towards the uterus)...
