A 307 bp segment of Cytochrome b gene of mtDNA was sequenced and analyzed for 90 individuals of Cirrhinus mrigala collected across the three rivers, namely Ganges, Narmada and Brahmaputra. Analyses revealed the presence of 14 haplotypes with haplotype diversity (h) ranging from 0.304 to 0.692, and nucleotide diversity (π) 0.002-0.043. The Jacobin is a breed of fancy pigeon developed over many years of selective breeding that originated in Asia. In the present work, we report the complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Jacobin pigeon for the first time. The control region (CR) of the mitochondrial DNA exhibits important functions in replication and transcription, and duplications of the CR have been reported in a wide range of animal groups. In most cases, concerted evolution is expected to explain the high similarity of duplicated CRs. In this paper, we present seven complete mitochondrial genome sequences from the bushtits (genus Aegithalos), in which we discovered two duplicated CRs, and try to survey the evolution pattern of these duplicated CRs. We also found that the duplicated CRs within one individual were almost identical, and variations were concentrated in two sections, one located between a poly-C site and a potential TAS (termination associated sequence) element, the other one located at the 3' end of the duplicated CRs...

The complete mitochondrial sequence of the spotted scat Scatophagus argus has been determined using long amplification polymerase chain reaction (LA-PCR). The total length of sequence is 16,778 bp, and includes 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes and 1 control region. The base composition of H-strand is 27.23% (A), 27.54% (T), 16.22% (G) and 28.81% (C), with an AT content of 55.08%. The arrangement of genes in S. argus is identical to that of other fish species.
