Triple pelvic osteotomy (TPO) is a widely known and accepted procedure carried out to treat acetabular dysplasia in adults. According to this technique, osteotomies are performed through the ischium, ilium and pubis in order to mobilize the whole acetabulum. In this article, we report a 30-year-old female patient who was admitted to our outpatient clinic with a complaint of intense pain after standing or walking. Patient had undergone Steel-like TPO for acetabular dysplasia approximately nine months before...

Osteoma is a benign tumor. Extracranial cases are very rare. Twelve cases have been reported by 10 different authors in the literature. To our knowledge, osteoma was never reported in the patella. In this article, we report a 61-year-old male patient who presented with a painless mass in the patella of his right knee, which appeared almost four years before and showed a progressive enlargement in the past six months. Range of motion (ROM) of the joint was limited. Marginal excision was performed under regional anesthesia and the histopathological evaluation of the lesion confirmed the diagnosis of osteoma...

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to investigate the changes in preferences of orthopedic surgeons for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and total hip arthroplasty (THA) and the factors that affect such changes in Turkey. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association members (n=2,180) were invited to fill in the questionnaire. A total of 366 orthopedic surgeons responded and completed questionnaire. The questionnaire was comprised of 12 questions investigating the demographics of surgeons, their preferences for VTE prophylaxis, the changes in their preferences over the course of the past three years, and the causes of such changes...

Congenital dislocation of the patella is a rare and difficult pathology to treat. We present a case of bilateral congenital dislocation of the patella with synostosis of proximal tibiofibular and proximal radioulnar joints without genu valgum deformity of both knees in a 30-year-old man. To our knowledge, congenital dislocation of the patella associated with synostosis of proximal tibiofibular and proximal radioulnar joints has not been reported in the literature yet.

Achilles tendon xanthomas are rarely seen masses that are highly associated with hyperlipidemia. They are manifested in two types: Xanthomas developed secondary to familial hypercholesterolemia and cerebrotendinous xanthomatoses. In this report, we present a case of bilateral Achilles tendon xanthoma secondary to familial hypercholesterolemia and resection along with a portion of the Achilles tendon. The patient was a 49-year-old male who presented to our clinic with complaints of difficulty walking and swelling in both heels...

REVIEW
Erdem Aras Sezgin, O Şahap Atik
Orthobiologics are biologically derived materials which aim to promote healing and regeneration of tissues that are the focus of orthopedic surgery. Since bones, ligaments, tendons, and cartilage have different healing and regeneration characteristics, treatment strategies and clinical problems related to these tissues greatly differ. Although orthobiolgics are an old concept, most of the advancements in this field have been accomplished within the last two decades. A large number of promising laboratory studies show that orthobiolics hold a great potential in launching the next chapter of orthopedics...

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to compare the three most commonly used fixation techniques: tension-band wire fixation, partially threaded cannulated screws, and fully threaded cannulated headless compression screws. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Ninety patients with medial malleolus fractures were included in the study. Patients were divided into three groups. Group A included patients who underwent tension-band wire fixation (n=26), Group B partially threaded cannulated compression screws (n=32), and Group C fully threaded cannulated headless compression screws (n=32)...

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to investigate whether or not low-energy distal radius or vertebra fractures are harbingers of hip fracture. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 142 patients had surgical treatment due to hip fracture in our clinic between February 2013 and January 2017. The patients had low-energy fractures before hip fracture, and they received either medical treatment for osteoporosis or not before hip fracture developed. RESULTS: Of 142 patients, 32 had distal radius, humeral neck, ankle, vertebra fractures and 15 had a second hip fracture...
