The μ-nitrido-bridged iron phthalocyanine homodimer is a potent molecule-based CH4 oxidation catalyst that can effectively oxidize chemically stable CH4 under mild reaction conditions in an acidic aqueous solution including an oxidant such as H2 O2 . The reactive intermediate is a high-valent iron-oxo species generated upon reaction with H2 O2 . However, a detailed comparison of the CH4 oxidation activity of the μ-nitrido-bridged iron phthalocyanine dimer with those of μ-nitrido-bridged iron porphyrinoid dimers containing one or two porphyrin ring(s) has not been yet reported, although porphyrins are the most important class of porphyrinoids...

The β-diketiminato calcium and magnesium complexes, [(BDI)Mg n Bu] and [(BDI)CaH]2 (BDI = HC{C(Me)NDipp}2 ; Dipp = 2,6-di-isopropylphenyl), react with ortho -carborane ( o -C2 B10 H12 ) to provide the respective [(BDI)Ae( o -C2 B10 H11 )] (Ae = Mg or Ca) complexes. While the lighter group 2 species is a monomer with magnesium in a distorted trigonal planar environment, the heavier analogue displays a puckered geometry at calcium in the solid state due to Ca⋯H-B intermolecular interactions. These secondary contacts are, however, readily disrupted upon addition of THF to provide the 4-coordinate monomer, [(BDI)Ca(THF)( o -C2 B10 H11 )]...

Four salts of an anionic iron(III) bis-complex, [Fe(LL-thr )2 ]1- , were synthesized from water or methanol. H2 LL-thr is a tridentate ligand derived from the L-threonine amino acid, and the cations used are Li+ (1), Na+ (2), K+ (3), and Ba2+ (4). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction showed that all the complexes are coordination polymers of different dimensionalities. The iron(III) complex binds to cations through its coordinated phenolate and non-coordinated carboxylate oxygen atoms. While Li+ forms a linear chain, all others have a pair of bridged cations intervening the iron(III) complexes...

rGO-MoSe2 nanocomposites were prepared via a one-pot hydrothermal method in which MoSe2 microspheres (MS) were decorated on rGO sheets. Three nanocomposites named F1, F2, and F3 were prepared using different weight ratios of MoSe2 MS to rGO: (3 : 1), (4 : 1), and (5 : 1), respectively. FESEM images showed a flower-like porous morphology of the MoSe2 microspheres. All the rGO-MoSe2 nanocomposites exhibited remarkable microwave absorption properties as demonstrated by strong reflection loss (-58 dB to -99 dB) and an ultrabroad effective absorption bandwidth (equivalent to 90% attenuation), which covers whole X and Ku frequency bands at matching thicknesses of 2...

Metalloviologens, as emerging electron-transfer photochromic compounds, have shown intriguing properties such as radiochromism, photochromism and photoconductance. However, only a limited number of them have been reported so far. Exploration of new metalloviologens is strongly desired. Herein, we report a new solvothermally synthesized metalloviologen complex [CdCl2 (ND)2 ] n (1, ND = 1,5-naphthalenes) that exhibits photochromic and intrinsic white light emission properties. Density functional theory calculation results reveal that the photochromism could be assigned to photoinduced electron transfer from chlorine atoms to ND molecules...

Applying molecular design to chiral organo-Zn2+ complexes, a new pair of chiral heteroleptic bis -pyrazolonate-Zn2+ enantiomers [Zn(PMBP)2 (1 R ,2 R -Chxn)] (R,R-Zn2+; HPMBP = 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone and 1R,2R-Chxn = (1 R ,2 R )-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine) and [Zn(PMBP)2 (1 S ,2 S -Chxn)] (S,S-Zn2+; 1S,2S-Chxn = (1 S ,2 S )-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine) have been synthesized and characterized in terms of photophysical and thermodynamic properties. In addition to a small Flack parameter (0.05(3)) associated with the solid-state elucidation of S,S-Zn2+, the circular dichroism (CD) and circularly polarized light (CPL) spectra for the chiral Zn2+ enantiomers show perfect mirror symmetry, establishing that the enantiopure 1,2-diamines successfully induce the optical isomerism of R,R-Zn2+ and S,S-Zn2+...

The structural and conductive properties of the synthetic tychite Na6 Mg2 (CO3 )4 SO4 (space group: Fd 3̄) were explored. Optimal synthesis parameters were selected by varying the molar ratio of reagents, synthesis temperature and time. For structural descriptions, we carried out scanning electron microscopy, thermal analysis, and Raman and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. We carried out theoretical and experimental studies of conductivity. Theoretical calculations were obtained using geometrical-topological analysis based on Voronoi partitioning (the evaluation of geometrical sizes of voids and channels), the bond valence site energy (BVSE) method (the fast calculation of migration energies, E m ), kinetic Monte Carlo simulation (the estimation of ionic conductivity at different temperatures), and density functional theory (the precise assessment of E m and vacancy formation energies)...

Lead-free inorganic perovskites have attracted intensive attention in the field of photodetectors owing to their high stability, non-toxicity, and remarkable photoelectric characteristics. Herein, we designed and developed a series of thus-far unreported lead-free all inorganic perovskite single crystals, K7 Bi3 X16 (X = Cl, Br). In particular, we resorted to cooling crystallization and intercalated K+ to inorganic Bi-Br and Bi-Cl frameworks as inorganic A-site cations, obtaining zero-dimensional (0D) K7 Bi3 X16 (X = Cl, Br) perovskite single crystals, which display suitable bandgaps, excellent electron mobility and low trap-state density, as analysed by experimental characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculations...

Calix[8]arene has been used as a promising type of macrocyclic ligand for the construction of multinuclear metal-oxo clusters (MOCs), but not for zirconium/hafnium-oxo clusters (Zr/HfOCs). In this paper, we report the first series of ZrOCs (HfOCs) based on calix[8]arene: Zr4, Zr8, Hf4, and Hf8. Zr8/Hf8 has a rhombohedral conformation and can be regarded as a derivative of the octahedral Zr6 cluster. Remarkably, I2 adsorption experiments indicate that Zr4 (Zr8) adsorbs much faster than Hf4 (Hf8). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that metallic Zr atoms interact more strongly with I2 than metallic Hf atoms...

Metal complexes play a crucial role in photo-activated chemotherapy (PACT), which has recently been used to treat specific disorders. Triple-negative breast cancer has an enormously high rate of relapse due to the existence and survival of cancer stem cells (CSCs) characterized by increased amounts of glutathione (GSH). Hence, designing a phototoxic molecule is an enticing area of research to combat triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) via GSH depletion and DNA photocleavage. Herein, we focus on the application of PTA and non-PTA Ir(III) complexes for phototoxicity in the absence and presence of GSH against MDA-MB-231 TNBC cells...

While the dithiolene-based N-heterocyclic silane (4) reacts with two equivalents of BX3 (X = Br, I) to give zwitterionic Lewis adducts 5 and 8, respectively, the parallel reaction of 4 with BCl3 results in 10, a dithiolene-substituted N-heterocyclic silane, via the Si-S bond cleavage. Unlike 5, the labile 8 may be readily converted to 9 via BI3 -mediated cleavage of the Si-N bond. The formation of 5 and 8 confirms that 4 uniquely possesses dual nucleophilic sites: (a) the terminal sulphur atom of the dithiolene moiety; and (b) the backbone carbon of the N-heterocyclic silane unit...
