(1) More than 25 million children ride in a school bus every weekday in the U.S. (2) School buses are the safest way to transport students. (3) Nearly 60 school bus passengers died in crashes, and almost 100 pedestrians under 18 were killed in crashes related to school transportation, between 2007 and 2016.

(1) Section 1332 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) allows states to apply for reinsurance waivers--which can alter certain ACA requirements for health insurance plans--to help make coverage more affordable. (2) As of 2017, more than 10 million people were enrolled in a health insurance plan in the individual market. (3) To date, seven states have successfully adopted reinsurance programs at minimal cost to the state and have seen premiums reduced as much as 20 percent annually.

(1) Untreated mental disorders and mental illness in children can lead to costly outcomes such as school dropout, substance use and suicide. (2) Half of lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14 and 75 percent of all lifetime cases present by age 24. (3) Early intervention and access to treatment may decrease the financial and health burdens associated with mental illness.

(1) There were 840 bicyclist traffic deaths in 2016, the highest amount since 1991. (2) According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, 45 percent of fatal bicycle crashes between 2008 and 2012 involved a vehicle hitting the bicyclist from behind or the side while traveling in the same direction. (3) Thirty-two states have a law requiring a motorist to provide at least 3 feet of space when passing a bicyclist.

(2) Eighty percent of the U.S. public views prescription drug costs as "unreasonable," while 17 percent say “reasonable,” according to a recent poll. (2) At least 22 states have established funds to enhance their efforts to eradicate human trafficking.
