CaSnO3 :Bi(3+) blue-emitting phosphor was synthesized using a high-temperature solid-state reaction method in air. The crystal structures and luminescence properties were investigated. A broad emission band peaking at ~448 nm upon excitation at 262 and 308 nm was observed in the range 330-680 nm at room temperature due to (3) P1  → (1) S0 transition of the Bi(3+) ion. The chromaticity coordinate was (0.1786, 0.1665). The optimal Bi(3+) ion concentration was ~0.6 mol% in CaSnO3 :Bi(3+) phosphor. The emission spectrum of CaSnO3 :Bi(3+) phosphor showed a blue-shift with increasing temperature from 50 to 300 K due to the influence of temperature on the electron transition of the Bi(3+) ion...

In this study, fluorescence spectroscopy and molecular modeling approaches were employed to investigate the binding of methotrexate to human serum albumin (HSA) under physiological conditions. From the mechanism, it was demonstrated that fluorescence quenching of HSA by methotrexate results from the formation of a methotrexate/HSA complex. Binding parameters calculated using the Stern-Volmer method and the Scatchard method showed that methotrexate binds to HSA with binding affinities in the order 10(4)  L·mol(-1) ...

Nanophosphors of (Sr0.98-x Mgx Eu0.02 )2 SiO4 (x = 0, 0.18, 0.38, 0.58 and 0.78) were prepared through low temperature solution combustion method and their luminescence properties were studied. The emission peak for Eu(2)(+)  -doped Sr2 SiO4 nanophosphor is observed at ~490 nm and ~553 nm corresponding to two Sr(2)(+) sites Sr(I) and Sr(II) respectively for 395 nm excitation. However the addition of Mg(2)(+) dopant in Sr2 SiO4 leads to suppression of ~553 nm emission peak due to absence of energy levels of Sr (II) sites which results in a single broad emission at ~460 nm...

Samples of the Ba9 (Lu2-x Yx )Si6 O24 :Ce(3)(+) (x = 0-2) blue-green phosphors were synthesized by solid-state reactions. All the samples exhibited a rhombohedral crystal structure. As the Y(3)(+) concentration increased, the diffraction peaks shifted to the small angle region and the lattice parameters increased due to the larger ionic radius of Y(3)(+) (r = 0.900 Å) compared with that of Lu(3)(+) (r = 0.861 Å). Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) crowned chrysene nanoparticles (CHYNPs) were prepared by using a reprecipitation method. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) studies indicate that the monodispersed spherical nanoparticles bear a negative charge on their surfaces. The bathochromic spectral shift in the UV-visible and fluorescence spectrum of CHYNPs from chrysene (CHY) in acetone solution supports the J- type aggregation of nanoparticles. This paper reports a convenient method for the synthesis of highly fluorescent Au nanoclusters (NCs) via electrostatically induced phase transfer. Furthermore, on the basis of an aggregation-induced fluorescence quenching mechanism, the potential application for Cu(2)(+) sensing on the fluorescence emission of the Au NCs is discussed. Herein, we investigated new phthalimide-based Schiff base molecules as promising DNA-binding and free radical scavenging agents. A novel Cu(II) complex chemosensor for hydrogen sulfide with azo as the colorimetric group has been synthesized. The complex and ligand crystals were obtained and the molecular structures were characterized by X-ray diffraction and Electrospray ionization High resolution mass spectrometer (ESI-HRMS). The triboluminescence of Eu2 (SO4 )3 ·8H2 O and Tb2 (SO4 )3 ·8H2 O crystals in an atmosphere of sulfur dioxide (SO2 ) or sulfur hexafluoride (SF6 ) was studied. Quenching of the gaseous (emitter N2 ) and solid-state (emitter Ln(3+) ) components of the triboluminescence (TL) emission spectrum was seen when compared with the TL spectra of the crystals in air. In this paper, a novel and ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescent sensor employing a solvothermal-synthesized CdS nanorod-modified pencil graphite electrode (CdS/PGE) for the determination of chlorogenic acid (CA) is fabricated. In the first step, the PGE surface is modified using CdS nanorods. In order to improve the luminescent performance of silicate blue phosphors, Sr(1.5-x)-(1.5y) Mg0.5 SiO4 :xEu(2)(+) ,yCe(3+) phosphors were synthesized using one-step calcination of a precursor prepared by chemical co-precipitation. The crystal structure and luminescent properties of the phosphors were analyzed using X-ray diffraction and fluorescence spectrophotometry, respectively. We have developed an automated high-sensitive ATP bioluminometer for detecting single bacterium. The apparatus consists of a tube rack for setting reagents and samples, two washing baths for preventing sample carry-over from dispenser nozzle, and x-, y-, z- actuators for moving the dispenser, and an high-sensitive optical system. The reaction tube was selected to reduce the background signal intensities for the ATP bioluminescence measurement. The background signal intensity of the reaction tube was 18 RLU, which is almost the same as the dark counts of the photomultiplier (16 RLU)...

A novel fluorescent sensor, 1-((2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)methylene)urea (ocn) has been designed and applied as a highly selective and sensitive fluorescent probe for recognition of Al(3)(+) in Tris-HCl (pH = 7.20) solution. The probe ocn exhibits an excellent selectivity to Al(3)(+) over other examined metal ions, anions and amino acids with a prominent fluorescence 'turn-on' at 438 nm. ocn binds to Al(3)(+) with a 2:1 binding stoichiometry and the detection limit was 0.3 μM. Furthermore, its capability of biological application was evaluated and the results showed that the sensor could be used to detect Al(3)(+) in living cells...

In this study, the thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics of Ag-doped and undoped lithium tetraborate (Li2 B4 O7 , LTB) materials, grown using the Czochralski method, were reported. The TL properties of LTB:Ag, such as glow curve structure, dose response, fading and reproducibility, were investigated. The glow curve of the Li2 B4 O7 :Ag single crystal consists of four peaks located at approximately 75, 130, 190 and 275°C; in undoped LTB, the single crystal shows a broad glow curve with peaks at 65, 90, 125, 160 and 190°C using a heating rate of 5°C/s in the 50-350°C temperature region...

In this paper, a simple and highly sensitive spectrofluorimetric method was developed and validated for the determination of entacapone (ETC). The proposed method is based on forming a highly fluorescent product through the reduction of ETC with Zn/HCl. The produced fluorophore exhibits strong fluorescence at λem 345 nm after excitation at λex 240 nm. The use of fluorescence enhancers such as Tween-80 and carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) greatly enhanced the fluorescence of the produced fluorophore by 150% and 200%, respectively...

Modified synthesis and luminescence of Y2 BaZnO5 phosphors activated with the rare earths (RE) Eu(3)(+) , Tb(3)(+) , Pr(3)(+) and Sm(3)(+) are reported. RE2 BaZnO5 phosphors have attracted attention because of their interesting magnetic and optical properties; and are usually prepared using a two-step solid-state reaction. The K2 Mg(SO4 )2 :Eu phosphor, synthesized by a solid-state diffusion method, was studied for its photoluminescence (PL) and thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of the material was matched with the standard JCPDF No. 36-1499. For PL characteristics, K2 Mg(SO4 )2 :Eu(2)(+) showed an emission peak at 474 nm when excited at 340 nm, while it showed Eu(3)(+) emission at 580 nm, and 594 nm splitting at 613 nm and 618 nm for an excitation of 396 nm wavelength due to radiative transitions from (5) D0 to (7) Fj (j = 0, 1, 2, 3)...
