Eu-doped aluminum nitride phosphors were successfully prepared using simple direct nitridation of a metallic aluminum and Eu2 O3 powder mixture in flowing ammonia. AlN formed at reaction temperatures >900°C, and Eu(3+) transformed into the secondary oxide phase EuAl2 O4 in the nitridation condition. Phase pure AlN was obtained by post-heat treatment of the nitridated product at 1600°C for 3 h in a nitrogen atmosphere, with an Eu(2+) doping concentration < 0.5%. The molecular recognition and binding interaction of beta-lactamase II from Bacillus cereus (Bc II) with penicillin V (PV) and sulbactam (Sul) at 277 K were studied by spectroscopic analysis and molecular docking. The results showed that a non-fluorescence static complex was separately formed between Bc II and two ligands, the molecular ratio of Bc II to PV or Sul was both 1:1 in the binding and the binding constants were 2.00 × 10(6) and 3.98 × 10(5) (L/mol), respectively. Sr4 Al2 O7 :Eu(3+) and Sr4 Al2 O7 :Dy(3+) phosphors with alkali metal substitution were prepared using a sol-gel method. The effects of a charge compensator R on the structure and luminescence of Sr4 Al2 O7 :Re(3+) ,R(+) (Re = Eu and Dy; R = Li, Na and K) phosphors were investigated in detail. Upon heating to 1400°C, the structure of the prepared samples was that of the standard phase of Sr4 Al2 O7 . Cu,Mn:ZnSe quantum dots (QDs) of tunable size, controllable photoluminescence (PL) intensity ratio and PL range were prepared. A study of the experimental conditions confirmed that the size of Cu,Mn:ZnSe QDs is affected by the pH of the solution, the speed at which the Zn solution is injected and the reaction temperature. Europium (Eu)(3+) -substituted La2 Li0.5 Al0.5 O4 red emitting phosphors were prepared by a conventional high-temperature solid-state reaction method. A new Eu(3)(+) -substituted CsK2 Y[VO4 ]2 glaserite-type orthovanadate phosphor was synthesized by the conventional high temperature solid-state reaction method. A blue-emitting phosphor Ca12 Al14 O32 F2 :Eu(2+) was synthesized using a high-temperature solid-state reaction under a reductive atmosphere. The X-ray diffraction measurements indicate that a pure phase Ca12 Al14 O32 F2 :Eu(2+) can be obtained for low doping concentration of Eu(2+) . The phosphor has a strong absorption in the range 270-420 nm with a maximum at ~340 nm and blue emission in the range 400-500 nm with chromatic coordination of (0.152, 0.045). The optimal doping concentration is ~0.24. The binding of benzoyl peroxide (BPO), a flour brightener, with calf thymus DNA (ctDNA) was predicted by molecular simulation, and this were confirmed using multi-spectroscopic techniques and a chemometrics algorithm. The molecular docking result showed that BPO could insert into the base pairs of ctDNA, and the adenine bases were the preferential binding sites which were validated by the analysis of Fourier transform infrared spectra. CaSnO3 :Bi(3+) blue-emitting phosphor was synthesized using a high-temperature solid-state reaction method in air. The crystal structures and luminescence properties were investigated. A broad emission band peaking at ~448 nm upon excitation at 262 and 308 nm was observed in the range 330-680 nm at room temperature due to (3) P1  → (1) S0 transition of the Bi(3+) ion. Nanophosphors of (Sr0.98-x Mgx Eu0.02 )2 SiO4 (x = 0, 0.18, 0.38, 0.58 and 0.78) were prepared through low temperature solution combustion method and their luminescence properties were studied. The emission peak for Eu(2)(+)  -doped Sr2 SiO4 nanophosphor is observed at ~490 nm and ~553 nm corresponding to two Sr(2)(+) sites Sr(I) and Sr(II) respectively for 395 nm excitation. However the addition of Mg(2)(+) dopant in Sr2 SiO4 leads to suppression of ~553 nm emission peak due to absence of energy levels of Sr (II) sites which results in a single broad emission at ~460 nm...

Samples of the Ba9 (Lu2-x Yx )Si6 O24 :Ce(3)(+) (x = 0-2) blue-green phosphors were synthesized by solid-state reactions. All the samples exhibited a rhombohedral crystal structure. Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) crowned chrysene nanoparticles (CHYNPs) were prepared by using a reprecipitation method. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) studies indicate that the monodispersed spherical nanoparticles bear a negative charge on their surfaces. This paper reports a convenient method for the synthesis of highly fluorescent Au nanoclusters (NCs) via electrostatically induced phase transfer. Furthermore, on the basis of an aggregation-induced fluorescence quenching mechanism, the potential application for Cu(2)(+) sensing on the fluorescence emission of the Au NCs is discussed. Herein, we investigated new phthalimide-based Schiff base molecules as promising DNA-binding and free radical scavenging agents.
