Several studies have focused on treating atopic dermatitis (AD) using topical antifungal drugs. However, their findings are inconsistent. This meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of topical antifungal drugs for the treatment of AD. We searched prominent databases such as EMBASE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, China Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and Wanfang Database to retrieve all RCTs on the use of topical antifungal drugs for the treatment of AD...

Alopecia areata (AA), a polygenic and chronic autoimmune disease and there is no definitive cure. We aimed to evaluate latanoprost effects in patients with AA. In this controlled randomized double-blind clinical trial, we enrolled patients with AA randomly assigned to six groups of 18; Group 1 received latanoprost eye drops; group 2 minoxidil 5% solution; group 3 latanoprost eye drops and minoxidil 5% solution; group 4 betamethasone and minoxidil 5% solution; group 5 betamethasone solution and latanoprost eye drops; group 6 (the control group) betamethasone solution...

The treatment of chronic urticaria (CU) is difficult, currently, antihistamines (AH) are the mainstay of treatment, however, up to 40% of patients do not respond to even high (four-fold) daily doses of AH. Tofacitinib is, a small-molecule that blocks JAK1/3 and inhibits intracellular signaling of multiple key cytokines involved in the inflammatory cascade and its beneficial effects were reported in patients with mast cell activation disease but there is no report in patients with urticaria. Here, we present four cases of refractory CU and one case of urticarial vasculitis (UV) that were managed with tofacitinib...

Seborrheic keratosis (SK) is a common, benign tumor that can occur on everybody site and can be conservatively managed. Cosmetic concerns, especially when a lesion involves the facial area, are the most common reason for excision. SK shows male gender preponderance and increasing age is an independent association with the condition. Even though more prevalent in the elderly, it has also been reported in younger age groups like adolescents and young adults. Precise pathogenesis is still obscure, but ultra-violet exposure represents a predisposing factor to SK by altering the biochemical concentration and expression of factors like Glutamine deaminases, endothelin, and stem cell factor...

Although topical drugs are the mainstay of treatment for patients with mild-to-moderate psoriasis, the developments observed in this field in the last two decades have been limited. The most commonly used drugs are still vitamin D analogues and corticosteroids, both with several limitations. The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) plays a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, and tapinarof, a novel, first-in-class, small molecule topical therapeutic AhR-modulating agent has been recently approved by the FDA for the topical treatment of plaque psoriasis in adults...

This meta-analysis aimed to assess the efficacy of omalizumab in the treatment of refractory-to-antihistamines chronic induced urticaria (CIndU) in comparison with that of refractory-to-antihistamines chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU). We retrieved interventional studies and observational studies on omalizumab efficacy to CIndU patients and efficacy comparison between CSU and CIndU both refractory to H1-antihistamines in electronic databases (accessed till May 2022). The odd ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated with a random-effect model in this meta-analysis...

Type 2 immune response refers to a complicated series of immune responses characterized by Th2 polarization and Th2 cytokines secretion. The IgE secretion, airway hypersensitivity, and effector cell recruitment (eosinophils, mast cells, basophils) in skin lesion and peripheral blood stream could be upregulated during the activation of type 2 immune response. Th1/Th2 ratio, also referred as Th1/Th2 balance, represent the T lymphocytes immune pattern to a certain degree: Th1-dominated responses are often involved in intracellular infections (e...

The aim of this article is to present the case of acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis (Sweet syndrome-SS) after Ad26.COV2.S vaccination against SARS-CoV-2. To the best of our knowledge, this is the second case of SS provoked by this specific vaccine. What is more, the mildly symptomatic beginning of the disease, later followed by typical SS manifestation with a variety of symptoms including nodular erythema of the feet and oral ulcerations, made it very challenging to establish the diagnosis. The article focuses on the current literature on the acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis, along with the coexistence with other neutrophilic dermatoses and anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations as provoking factors...

Acne scarring usually causes cosmetic and psychological problems. Our aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of microneedling alone, intradermal injection of platelet rich plasma (PRP) alone and combined microneedling with PRP in the treatment of atrophic post-acne scars. Thirty adult patients with facial post-acne scars were randomly recruited and divided into two groups: A and B. Group A: included 15 patients; the left sides of their faces were treated with microneedling by dermapen followed by PRP while on the right side of the faces microneedling alone was performed...

Nail psoriasis is a chronic nail disorder that commonly affects psoriatic patients causing severe distress despite the limited body surface area. Treatments for nail psoriasis are limited, as nails are often difficult to treat with topical therapies, and among different systemic agents responses are unpredictable. We carried out a prospective study in order to analyze the effectiveness and tolerability of topical cyclosporine hydrogel ointment in nail psoriasis. Three patients, for a total of 44 nails, were treated with topical cyclosporine hydrogel ointment...

This review aims to synthesize and interpret the literature evaluating the off-label uses of ustekinumab. We performed searches in PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov for clinical trials, observational studies, case series, and case reports evaluating label uses of ustekinumab. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are regarded as the gold standard of evidence-based medicine. However, the disadvantages of RCTs have been well-documented for a lengthy period of time. Due to the carefully controlled conditions, a small group of patients is studied, resulting in a lack of external validity and generalizability. To address this issue, real-world evidence (RWE) has grown in importance as a complement to randomized controlled trials (RCTs). We introduce and describe the databases used by RWE in this post...

Skin aging goes beyond a chronological process and also results from extrinsic factors referred to as the exposome. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is an important component of the extracellular matrix, with loss starting at 25 years old. While many studies of HA concern topical use, few literature reviews only address the use of topical HA in dermatology. This review describes the different characteristics of HA-containing cosmeceuticals, with a focus on skin aging and the impact of exposome factors on HA synthesis and degradation...

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory, itching skin with a significant psychosocial impact on patients and relatives. In adults and adolescents besides flexural eczema, head and neck eczema, and hand eczema, which are the most frequent clinical phenotypes (84.9% and 84.2%, respectively), there are also other possible presentation such as, portrait-like dermatitis (20.1%), diffuse eczema (6.5%), eczema nummulare-like (5.8%), prurigo nodularis-like (2.1%) and erythrodermia (0.7%). Diagnosis can be easy due to the typically distributed eczematous lesions, albeit with age-related differences, However, it is also extremely heterogeneous in severity, course, and sometimes particular clinical features...
