The carotid glomus is an anatomical structure located in the bifurcation of the common carotid artery and consisting of chemo and baroreceptors. It is an important reflexogenic zone participating in provision of constancy of arterial pressure. Performing eversion carotid endarterectomy is accompanied by damage of the structures of the carotid glomus, which is followed by persistent arterial hypertension in the early postoperative period. This complication remains one of the unsolved tasks in surgery of carotid arteries...

The purpose of the study was to elaborate an algorithm of treatment policy for post-puncture false aneurysms of the femoral artery (FAFA). The study was performed on the basis of the clinical material over 2014-2017 at the Regional Vascular Centre whose specialists have since 2017 been using the femoral arterial approach (FAA) only if the radial arteries are inaccessible for puncture or for inserting the endovascular tools and appliances. The obtained findings demonstrated that the number of coronary interventions performed with the use of the femoral arterial approach in patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome decreased from a total of 758 (100...

Described in the article is a clinical case report regarding successful surgical treatment of total thrombosis of a stent graft in a high-risk surgical patient, having previously undergone endovascular repair of an abdominal aortic aneurysm by means of a unilateral stent graft with suprarenal fixation of its crown and femorofemoral crossover bypass grafting. 5 months after the operation, the patient began complaining of rest pain in his right leg and trophic ulcers of the foot. The findings of MSCT angiography revealed total thrombosis of the stent graft, to be later on followed by operative intervention, i...

Described herein is a clinical case report regarding successful endovascular treatment of a patient presenting with an abdominal aortic aneurysm combined with occlusion of one of the iliac arteries. Cases concerning elimination of such pathology appear to be reported only sporadically in the available literature. The patient underwent reconstructive repair in two stages. The first stage comprised recanalization with stenting of the occluded iliac artery on the right and implantation of the Zenith stent graft...

The purpose of this study was to analyse the results of hybrid loop endarterectomy from the superficial femoral artery (SFA) in its occlusion, preformed in a total of forty-two patients. Of these, 27 patients had prior to the intervention been diagnosed with stage II B ischaemia and 15 patients had been diagnosed as having critical ischaemia. Technical success of the operation amounted to 88%, with the frequency of early thromboses equalling 2.7%. In the early postoperative period, one patient died of acute myocardial infarction...

Prevention of neurological complications in cardiosurgical and reconstructive vascular surgery is one of the priority tasks of preserving ability to work and decreasing invalidization of patients in the postoperative period. Presented in the article is a clinical case report regarding multiple-stage treatment of a female patient with a combined aortic defect, coronary pathology, and a multilevel bilateral lesion of the brachiocephalic arteries. The first stage consisted in performing a hybrid operation, i. e...

Death in patients with postinfarction aneurysms of the left ventricle (LV) is mainly caused by life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias - ventricular tachycardias (VTs) and ventricular fibrillations (VFs). Surgical reconstruction of the LV may potentially lead to disruption of the re-entry mechanism, lying at the basis of ventricular tachyarrhythmias. A series of authors demonstrated high efficacy of such procedures as endocardectomy and radiofrequency ablation of the borderline zone of the LV. But high incidence of relapses, difficulty detecting the localization of VT and performing radiofrequency ablation (RFA), as well as high incidence of spontaneous and induced VTs in patients with postinfarction aneurysms of the LV have preserved dissatisfaction with the currently existing techniques...

Knowledge of anatomical variations of the division of the popliteal artery and specific lesions of the arterial segment involved is necessary for the surgeon, traumatologist-orthopaedist, vascular surgeon. The article contains a review of recent literature data on the prevalence of different variants of branching patterns of the arteries of the crus, also providing a detailed discussion of embryological development of the arterial system of the lower extremities, in many ways explaining the appearance of rare pathologies of the popliteal artery, such as for example popliteal artery entrapment syndrome...

BACKGROUND: It is known that namely long-term presence of suture material as the only foreign body in autologous conditions may lead to restenosis in the remote period. Such hypothesis was put forward based on good results of reconstructive cardiovascular operations in case of using absorbable suture material. OBJECTIVE: Our study was aimed at comparative analysis of remote results of using absorbable suture material polydioxanone and non-absorbable suture material polypropylene in eversion carotid endarterectomy...

A femoral approach is the main access in stenting of carotid arteries, mainly due to rapid training in how to perform the procedure and a possibility of using large-diameter catheters. However, this approach is not always feasible in atherosclerosis, tortuosity of lower-limb arteries and in certain anatomical peculiarities of the aortic arch. Using a transradial approach is based on the desire to diminish the incidence rate of haemorrhagic complications in the zone of the puncture and to avoid the necessity of a long-term bed rest...

Presented herein is the world experience of surgical treatment and various tactical approaches in a combined lesion of the extracranial and intracranial portions of the internal carotid artery (ICA): a combination of its stenosis or occlusion with vascular malformation of the brain (a cerebral aneurysm, pathological anastomoses, arteriovenous malformations). Also pointed out is the prevalence of the pathology involved, followed by describing various types of surgical policy in this condition: staged and simultaneous interventions, endovascular and standard operative auxiliary techniques...

The purpose of the study was to optimize the technique of removing the trunk of the great saphenous vein (GSV) in patients over 60 years. The study included a total of eighty-five patients aged over 60 years and presenting with primary varicose veins of the lower limbs and undergoing operations performed on the superficial venous system, including all stages of classical phlebectomy - crossectomy, stripping of the GSV, removal of tributaries and ligation of incompetent perforant veins. The patients were divided into two groups: the Study Group (n=44) patients endured removal of the GSV with the use of the technique of temporal tamponing of the canal, while in Group Two patients, composing a comparison group (n=41), the GSV was removed without the use of a tampon...

Presented herein are the results of using Detralex in conservative treatment of women suffering from pelvic varicose veins. Our open prospective study included a total of 30 women with various forms of the course of the disease. All patients took Detralex prescribed at a daily dose of 1,000 mg for 60 days. Dynamic assessment of clinical manifestations of pelvic varicose veins in this cohort of patients was carried out with the help of a specialized quality-of-life questionnaire, an adapted clinical scale of determining disease severity, as well as a visual analogue scale for assessment of the main symptoms of the disease manifestations...

Using stents for endovascular restoration of blood flow made a revolution in vascular surgery, however, despite numerous variants of stents presented on the pharmacological market, there are no stents which would completely solve the problem of restenosis in the area of stent placement. In order to decrease growth of the neointima of the stented portions of vessels, stents coated with cytostatic and cytotoxic agents were worked out. To optimize the rate of drug release it was suggested to apply them in a mixture with biodegradable or biostable polymers...
