A naphthalimide Schiff base fluorescent probe (BSS) was designed and synthesized from 4-bromo-1,8-naphthalic anhydride, and its structure was characterized by 1 HNMR, 13 CNMR, FTIR, and MS. Fluorescence emission spectra showed that probe BSS could realize the "turn-off" detection of Cu2+ in acetonitrile solution, detection process with strong specificity and excellent anti-interference of other metal ions. In the fluorescence titration experiments, fluorescence intensity of BSS showed a good linear relationship with the Cu2+ concentration (0-10 µmol/L), and the detection limit was up to 7...

The sensor with electron donor phenothiazine-2-carbaldehyde and electron acceptor indolium carboxylic acid, is developed with an intramolecular charge transfer transition between them. The synthesized molecule senses cyanide ion in water. The cyanide ion reacts with the molecule via nucleophilic addition in the indolium ring with a noticeable purple to colorless change in the solution observed. Also with the cyanide ion interaction, the sensor exhibits change in UV-visible absorption and fluorescence spectra...

Recent advances in detection and diagnostic tools have improved understanding and identification of plant physiological and biochemical processes. Effective and safe Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) can find objects quickly and accurately. Raman enhancement amplifies the signal by 1014 -1015 to accurately quantify plant metabolites at the molecular level. This paper shows how to use functionalized perovskite substrates for SERS. These perovskite substrates have lots of surface area, intense Raman scattering, and high sensitivity and specificity...

A novel reaction-based ratiometric fluorescent probe 1 for Cu2+ using picolinate as the reaction site and hemicyanine as the fluorophore was developed. 1 displayed maximum absorption peak at 355 nm and fluorescence emission peak at 500 nm, with large Stokes shift of 145 nm. Upon reaction with Cu2+ , the maximum absorption and fluorescence emission peaks red-shifted to 390 nm and 570 nm respectively, owing to Cu2+ -induced hydrolysis of the picolinate moiety in 1. Meanwhile, the solution of 1 turned from green to orange under a 365 nm UV lamp...

Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) plays an important role in the treatment of human diseases, environmental security and global food supply. In this study, the simple fluorescent indicators and MnO2 nanosheets were developed and integrated to establish a ratiometric fluorescence sensing system for the detection of AChE activity. Two fluorescence signals could be recorded independently at the same excitation wavelength, which extended the detection range and enhanced the visibility of results. Fluorescence of F-PDA was quenched by MnO2 nanosheets on account of inner filtering effect...

Excessive levels of ClO- , however, have been linked to various health issues, including cardiovascular diseases (Halliwell and Gutteridge in Oxford University press, USA, 2015), arthritis, and neurodegenerative diseases (Heinzelmann and Bauer in Biol Chem. 391(6):675-693, 2010). Therefore, synthesizing highly selective and sensitive probes for rapidly detecting endogenous ClO- in daily foods is currently a popular research topic (Kalyanaraman et al...

Porphyrins and porphyrin derivatives have been intensively explored for a number of applications such as sensing, catalysis, adsorption, and photocatalysis due to their outstanding photophysical properties. Their usage in sensing applications, however, is limited by intrinsic defects such as physiological instability and self-quenching. To reduce self-quenching susceptibility, researchers have developed porphyrin metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), a unique type of hybrid porous coordination polymers comprised of metal ions linked by organic linkers, are gaining popularity...

It was demonstrated that 9-aryl-substituted isoquinolinium derivatives have significantly increased fluorescence quantum yields in halogenated solvents, mostly pronounced in chloroalkanes, which appears to be specific for this type of solvents. Further analysis with selected halogenated solvents revealed that the type and number of halogen substituents and the dielectric constant of the solvent have a distinct impact on the emission quantum yield. The solvent effect is explained by a solvation of the charge shift (CS) state by attractive halogen-π interactions (halogen bond), which impedes the torsional relaxation of the excited state...
