Breast cancer screening guidelines vary for women at intermediate risk (15%-20% lifetime risk) for developing breast cancer across jurisdictions. Currently available risk assessment models have differing strengths and weaknesses, creating difficulty and ambiguity in selecting the most appropriate model to utilize. Clarifying which model to utilize in individual circumstances may help determine the best screening guidelines to use for each individual.

Small bowel obstruction (SBO) is a common condition encountered by radiologists in the evaluation of patients with abdominal pain, and is an important diagnosis to be comfortable with given substantial associated morbidity and mortality. In this review, we summarize an imaging approach to evaluating patients with suspected SBO, discuss the role of certain imaging modalities such as radiography and small bowel follow through, CT, and MRI, as well as review some common and also less common causes of SBO such as internal hernia...

Purpose: To determine whether multiparametric MRI-based spatial habitats and fractal analysis can help distinguish triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) from non-TNBC. Method: Multiparametric DWI and DCE-MRI at 3T were obtained from 142 biopsy- and surgery-proven breast cancer with 148 breast lesions (TNBC = 26 and non-TNBC = 122). The contrast-enhancing lesions were divided into 3 spatial habitats based on perfusion and diffusion patterns using K-means clustering. The fractal dimension (FD) of the tumour subregions was calculated...

Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology hold potential across many disciplines in medicine to expand the delivery of education and healthcare. VR-AR applications in radiology, in particular, have gained prominence and have demonstrated advantages in many areas within the field. Recently, VR software has emerged to redesign the physical radiology workstation (ie, reading room) to expand the possibilities of diagnostic interpretation. Given the novelty of this technology, there is limited research investigating the potential applications of a simulated radiology workstation...

PURPOSE: Prior studies have described complications of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of liver tumours. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors for hospitalization duration longer than 24 hours following RFA of liver tumours. METHODS: This retrospective, single-centre study included patients with liver tumours undergoing RFA between October 2017 and July 2020. Medical records were reviewed to collect patient, tumours, and procedure characteristics for each RFA session...

Fungal rhinosinusitis (FRS) includes non-invasive and invasive subtypes with the latter having significant morbidity and mortality. This systematic review aims to identify the imaging features most correlated with invasive fungal rhinosinusitis (IFRS) and present a checklist of these features to aid diagnosis. PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, and Science Direct were searched from inception to May 2023, in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines...

OBJECTIVES: To prospectively evaluate the feasibility and safety of a polyetheretherketone (PEEK) polymer transpedicular vertebral system to treat vertebral compression fracture (VCF). METHODS: Nine consecutive patients (4 men and 5 women; median age 59 [interquartile range: 58-64 years]) were included. The procedure duration, length of hospital stay, and complications were reported. Visual analog scale (VAS) and the Oswestry disability index (ODI) for pain and disability were assessed before and at 2, 6, and 12-month after the procedure...

Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether deep-learning reconstruction (DLR) improves interobserver agreement in the evaluation of honeycombing for patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) who underwent high-resolution computed tomography (CT) compared with hybrid iterative reconstruction (HIR). Methods: In this retrospective study, 35 consecutive patients suspected of ILD who underwent CT including the chest region were included. High-resolution CT images of the unilateral lung with DLR and HIR were reconstructed for the right and left lungs...

Artificial Intelligence (AI) carries the potential for unprecedented disruption in radiology, with possible positive and negative consequences. The integration of AI in radiology holds the potential to revolutionize healthcare practices by advancing diagnosis, quantification, and management of multiple medical conditions. Nevertheless, the ever‑growing availability of AI tools in radiology highlights an increasing need to critically evaluate claims for its utility and to differentiate safe product offerings from potentially harmful, or fundamentally unhelpful ones...

PURPOSE: To compare the diagnostic performance of a thick-slab reconstruction obtained from an ultra-low-dose CT (termed thoracic tomogram) with standard-of-care low-dose CT (SOC-CT) for rapid interpretation and detection of pneumonia in hemato-oncology patients. METHODS: Hemato-oncology patients with a working diagnosis of pneumonia underwent an SOC-CT followed by an ultra-low-dose CT, from which the thoracic tomogram (TT) was reconstructed. Three radiologists evaluated the TT and SOC-CT in the following categories: (I) infectious/inflammatory opacities, (II) small airways infectious/inflammatory changes, (III) atelectasis, (IV) pleural effusions, and (V) interstitial abnormalities...
