This study aimed to realize a prospective follow-up of the injuries occurring in female and male football players involved in the highest league in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. The personality and the achievements of Professor Dr. Félicien M. Steichen, who was born in Luxembourg (10.13.1926) and died in Brignogan-Plages, France (6.27.2011) are brought into focus. His was a most distinguished career devoted to surgery, research, teaching and writing in Baltimore, Pittsburgh and New York. He will be remembered above all for his contributions to stapling in thoracic and abdominal surgery and to minimally invasive surgery.

With the world further aging, geriatric medicine clearly became a necessity: in the 21th century many more people reach older ages by means of continued medical success in expanding lifespan. 150 years ago life expectancy was between 30 to 40 years, but today close to 800 million people are 60 yeas old or more. During the last century aging has been associated with decline and decay, but gradually more people lived ably and healthily in older ages. The training and examination of Luxembourg's veterinarians are dictated during the first forty years of the 19th Century by the French and after by the Dutch. The legislation about the examinations of the Luxembourg's State is in effect from 1841 to 1969. We present a case of intraparenchymal radioinduced cyst of the brain observed in our department. It is a rare and relatively benign pathology which is usually treated conservatively or by surgery. We emphasize long-term imaging follow up in patients treated by radiosurgery, which can lead to the demonstration of multiple adverse events such as tumefactive cyst formation.

The majority of fractures of the anterior pelvic ring is treated non-operatively. However, a number of patients do not get pain free and cannot be mobilized. There is no doubt that a healthy diet and regular physical activity improve risk factors for cerebro-cardio-vascular disease and death. However, there is less evidence from prospective randomised controlled trials that they also reduce the actual risk of stroke, myocardial infarction and death.
