This article presents orthodontic-surgical treatment in an eight-year-old patient with bilateral cleft lip and palate where premaxilla was surgically repositioned in the mixed dentition stage. By cranial and dorsal insertion of the premaxilla were created satisfactory occlusal relationship for ongoing eruption of permanent teeth, together with functional lip closure, improved pronunciation and a positive change in appearance of the centrofacial area. Reposition of premaxilla was associated with bilateral alveolar bone grafting of the cleft defect with cancellous bone from the iliac crest...

Malignant melanoma is a serious disease, the incidence of which rises. Since the most important treatment method is sufficient wide skin and subcutaneous tissue excision, plastic surgeon is often the only specialist who is able to close the resulting defect. This paper deals with recommendations and treatment options for malignant melanoma from the point of a plastic surgeon. The primary width of excised safety rim of healthy tissue with regards to the depth of melanoma invasion differs. Safety margin is 0...

The nasolabial flap was described 170 years ago and still remains one of the most frequently used methods in facial reconstruction. This technically easy and maximally effective procedure has become a real workhorse and an integral instrument for every plastic surgeon. Over time multiple modifications of this technique have been described. In this article, authors present an overview of nasolabial flap modalities and discuss advantages and disadvantages of these techniques.

Autologous fat transfer techniques have experienced tremendous boom in the recent years. Plastic surgeons use these techniques to enhance both the features of the face and of the body. Over the years, controversies concerning fat harvesting, fat processing and fat injection came up. The authors of this review article describe their own experience with fat harvesting, processing and injection and show some of their own results. In addition, they discuss contemporary data from literature regarding the use and complications of fat grafting to the most common areas treated with fat grafting: breast and face...

Breast augmentation with implants is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures. The goal of the operation is to increase the size, shape or fullness of the breast. It is accomplished by placing silicone, saline or alternative composite breast implants under the chest muscles, fascia or the mammary gland. This type of operation is no exception with regards to concerning the occurrence of complications. The most common early complications include an infectious process, a seroma, and a hematoma, and the late ones include capsular contracture, reoperation, implant removal, breast asymmetry, and a rupture or deflation of the implant...

Even though reconstructive surgery of the nerves underwent significant progress due to experimental and clinical research over the past 40 years, injuries to the peripheral nerves still remain a great challenge for microsurgery. Literature results of these procedures are often evaluated as very good but the final result is often characterized by an achievement of only a useful and not full function, which is rather rare. It is not only a simple suture; the success is also based on functional regeneration and interconnection of the nerve fibres...

BACKGROUND: The latissimus dorsi flap is a reliable and one of the most commonly used methods of both immediate and delayed breast reconstruction. Its disadvantage is the limited volume of transferred tissue. The authors present their experience with the use of extended latissimus dorsi flap associated with immediate fat grafting into the pectoralis and latissimus dorsi muscles for secondary breast reconstruction. METHODS: From 2013 to 2016, 14 patients underwent secondary unilateral total breast reconstruction with extended latissimus dorsi flap associated with primary fat grafting into the pectoralis major and latissimus dorsi muscles...

Care for burn patients is defined in most developed countries as an independent multidisciplinary specialty (burn medicine) and it is concentrated to specialized units, which are sufficiently staffed with appropriate space area and equipment. Since the 50s of the previous century in the former Czechoslovakia, there were five such units, three of which were in the Czech Republic (Prague, Ostrava, Brno). The specialty successfully developed and achieved prestige also abroad, mainly due to uninterrupted contacts with the foreign units...

INTRODUCTION: Microneedling (percutaneous collagen induction therapy) is a new promising miniinvasive therapeutic method for the treatment of skin alterations of different aetiology, including burn scars. Since 2016, it is also available at our department. The microtraumatization of scars with the Dermaroller® leads to an activation of the healing cascade, activation of growth factors, which activate cell proliferation in the wound, increased synthesis and deposit of collagen - elastin complex with successive transformation of collagen III to collagen I, to neoangiogenesis and thus to accelerated scar remodelling...
