Worldwide polystyrene (PS) production in 2020 was approximately 27 million metric tons, distributed among many nations, making it one of the most heavily imported and exported chemicals. Commercially produced PS usually possesses a broad molar mass distribution, often with a substantial oligomeric component. The latter can significantly affect processing and end-use, in addition to having potentially hazardous health effects and to impacting the polymer's export classification by regulatory agencies. Quantitation of the oligomeric region of polymers by size-exclusion chromatography with concentration-sensitive and/or static light scattering detection is complicated by the non-constancy of the specific refractive index increment <mml:math xmlns:mml="https://www...

SARS-CoV-2 infection in the human body induces a severe storm of inflammatory factors. However, its specific mechanism is still not clear. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technology is expected to explain the possible mechanism of the disease by detecting differential metabolites. 15 COVID-19 patients and healthy controls were included in this study. Immune indicators such as hs CRP and cytokines were detected to reflect the level of inflammation in patients with COVID-19. The distribution of lymphocytes and subpopulations in peripheral whole blood were detected using flow cytometry to assess the immune function of COVID-19 patients...

Novel, rapid and precise RP-HPLC-DAD method was developed, validated and successfully applied for determination of metabolic changes of ethyl 5-(4-bromophenyl)-1-(3-(2-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazinyl)-3-oxopropyl)-2-methyl-1 H -pyrrole-3-carboxylate ( 12b ) in isolated rat hepatocytes. The analytes were detected by a simple DAD detector at 279 nm wavelength. A single-step extraction method was implemented to enable fast purification and extraction from cellular culture, resulting in a complete recovery...

UNLABELLED: Polar plant growth regulators, used alone or doped in fertilizers, are most effective and widely utilized plant growth regulators (PGRs) in agriculture, which play important roles in mediating the yield and quality of crops and foodstuffs. The application scope has been extended to herbal medicines in the past 2 decades and relevant study is inadequate. The aim of this study is to establish a QuPPe-based extraction method containing low-temperature and d -SPE cleanup procedure followed by the detection on a selective multiresidue ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography - triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS) in three herbal matrices...

In this study, we developed an easily operable quantification method for 21 plant-derived alkaloids in human serum by automatic sample preparation and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. We designed to perform parallel sample preparation by a developed apparatus, which increased sample throughput. We conducted an automatic sample preparation through de-proteinization with 0.1% formic acid in methanol and achieved recovery rates of 89-107% (2.0-14% RSD) for all targeted analytes, demonstrating its high repeatability...

For the last fifty years, Dengue has been one of the most common mosquito-borne arboviral infections which has spread over the tropical and subtropical world. Divya-Denguenil-Vati (DNV) has been formulated by blending five specific herbs for effective resolution of Dengue fever. In the present study, we aimed to identify, develop, validate, and standardize methods for Divya-Denguenil-Vati (DNV), on UHPLC and HPTLC analytical platforms, with rapid, sensitive, accurate and rugged attributes. Microfluidic devices for comprehensive three-dimensional spatial liquid chromatography will ultimately require a body of stationary phase with multiple in- and outlets. In the present work, 3D printing with a transparent polymer resin was used to create a simplified device that can be seen as a unit cell for an eventual three-dimensional separation system. Complete packing of the device with 5-μm C18 particles was achieved, with reasonable permeability. The packing process could be elegantly monitored from the pressure profile, which implies that optical transparency may not be required for future devices...

Qingfei Paidu (QFPD) granules have played a critical role during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in China. In this study, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-Q Exactive Orbitrap-mass spectrometry (MS) and the Orbitrap traditional Chinese medicine library (OTCML) were used to investigate the chemical constituents of QFPD granules. By comparing retention times, masses, isotope ion patterns, and MS2 profiles, 108 compounds were putatively identified using the OTCML combined with manual verification, including 12 alkaloids, 49 flavonoids, 13 terpenoids, 14 phenylpropanoids, 4 phenolic acids, 5 phenols, and 11 other phytochemicals...

We continue herein the exploration of detector orthogonality in size-based macromolecular separations. Previously [5], the sensitivity of viscometric detection was juxtaposed to that of differential refractometry (DRI) and light scattering (LS, both static and dynamic), and it was shown that viscometry is a truly orthogonal detection method to both DRI and LS. Here, via the size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) analysis of blends of polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate), we demonstrate the orthogonality of DRI to UV detection and, within the UV region of the electromagnetic spectrum, we also explore the phenomenon of "wavelength orthogonality:" Analytes observable by one detection method are shown to be spectroscopically invisible to another method, or even to the same detection method when operating at a different wavelength...
