In 30 patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) CT scan, isotopic cisternography and neuropsychological examination were performed to test possible relationship between cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) turnover, intellectual impairment and brain atrophy. Pathological cisternography was found in one third of the patients and it was positively correlated with the Columbia Rating Scale. A ten-year-old girl with a prolapsing ureterocele during micturation has been presented. Even though it is rarely seen, prolapsed ureterocele should be taken into consideration in the differential diagnosis of the interlabial masses in girls.

A case of venous aneurysm of the posterior tibial vein secondary to stab injury that resulted in A-V fistula in a 23 year male patient is presented. Popliteal venous aneurysm both of congenital as well as of acquired origin is a rare vascular entity that may be a potential source of thromboembolism. Thus surgery is usually required. In the presented case no history of pulmonary embolism was present. The aneurysm was treated surgically with good postoperative results.

In 180 men with BPH, aged 50-84 (mean 65) yrs. PSA levels were determined before and at 6 mo. after either transvesical removal of the adenoma (TRA, Group 1, n = 65), TURP (Group 2, n = 51) or after 6 mo. Doxazosin therapy (Group 3, n = 64). The aim of the study was to determine the late outcome of acute alcoholic pancreatitis (a.a.p.), as assessed by clinical examination, functional tests and imaging techniques. 47 patients, 4-7 years after a.a.p. of moderate clinical course underwent a secretin-cerulein test (SCT), glucose tolerance test (GTT), ultrasound (US) and computed tomography (CT) of the pancreas. Liver cells of rat's offspring were ultrastructurally examined after administering quinolinic acid to mothers intraperitoneally in a dose of 60 mmol or 100 mmol, once daily, throughout the entire gestation period. Liver tissue specimens were taken on day 5 after birth from experimental and control animals. Administration of quinolinic acid resulted in a marked proliferation of smooth elements of endoplasmic reticulum in liver cells of their offspring, which indicated microsomal enzymatic induction. Data on a patient with a coexisting left inguinal hernia and rectosigmoid cancer are reported. This case and the review of the literature reveal the necessity of full proctologic examination including sigmoidoscopy in each patient with inguinal hernia and nonspecific colorectal signs and symptoms.

A computer-based 3-dimensional representation of two erythrocyte membrane saturated fatty acids (hexadecanoic acid, 16:0 and octadecanoic acid, 18:0), serum cholesterol and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) was performed in 26 hypothyroid patients and in 10 control subjects. The result indicates that a three-dimensional representation of grouped data discriminates normal people from individuals with hypothyroidism in a small population of highly selected cases.

A 10-day open trial with Tropisetron, the selective serotonin type 3 receptor antagonist, in a dose of 5 mg daily was undertaken in 19 patients with the primary fibromyalgia syndrome (FB). Before and after the therapy, pain was assessed using a visual analogue scale and a pain score. All the patients were asked about the presence and intensity of vegetative and functional symptoms. Between 1962 and 1944, 300 families with acute hepatic porphyrias were seen at the Porphyria Centre in Warsaw. Among members of these families, 443 overt and 707 latent cases were diagnosed, and 211 persons had intermediate values of enzyme activity without clinical symptoms and biochemical changes in urine and stool. Three dual porphyrias were detected. Five children with acute symptoms were also seen. The patients and their relatives were registered and routine prophylactic measures were introduced. In this study, we developed a reliable scale to measure the quality of life (QOL), which would reflect the cultural characteristics of cancer patients in Turkey.
